S saw Map of Allegheny County, The accurate and laborious topographi ry.al survey of this panty, which . has been in progress for the last two years, is now 'nearly completed, and the work will soon I.be published tut Messrs. smith, Gallup* (Co.. The gentlemen referred to have been very sitechstiful in completing this survey and the map will show the results of their labor to be tar superior to anything pre viously attempted in this part of our State. The township lines, streams of water, hills and mountains, will be accurately delinea ted. The roads have all been measured and the distances will be placed in rods on every road in the country. The houses will appear with the names of owners throughout the county, except in Pitts burgh and vicinity,•which will be repre. sewed on the margin of the map by a line. ly engraved plan, showing all the streets and general form of the city and vicinity. There will also be given upon the margin of the map separate piece of all the bor. oughs and villages, around the city plan of Pittsburgh. A Business Directory will be given, where the business cards of all pa.. irons of the work will be gratuitously en graved., thus furnishing our professional and business men an excellent opportunity of permanently and tffectually advertising throughout the county. As this map must be a standard work of reference for years to come, we are confident that our business men will improve the opportunity thus afforded them of having their earls so ex tensively circutated. The publishers, who are now in the city, will call upon our citizens, give them au opportunity of examining their work and receive their cards for engraving. We bespeak for them a cordial greeting and a liberal patronage. DEDICATION. -The new Presbyterian Church at Sewickley, recently conr.leted for the congregation, of which Rev. Ailoombtir lowing are the compioto du , pate.bee pub lished by the Norfolk Day Book on Fri day Inst: BELETTCHYILLE, S. C , Ten Miles from Charlestor, Dc 12 —Passengers who have just arrived here, report a destructive fire last night at Charleston. The tire commenced in Charleston last night, Dec. 11. h, at 9 o'clock, in Kozel it Co.'s sash factory, of the foot of Hazel street, and communicated to the opposite side of kb , ni street to Cameron & Co.'s machine shop. Under the impurse thus given, and a stiff breeze, with a small supply of water, the conflagration assumed a formidablecharac ter, nearly equalling the most extensive conflagration on the American continent. The Theatre, Floyd's coach factory, oppo site the Express °Like, the old Executive Building, and all the houses between that point and queen street, are burnt. The whole of one side of Broad street is des, tram Gacieden'tiresidence to Massme street. RETV ER & A considerable portirm of the city from Bast Bay to King street is destroyed.-- Among the prominent buildings burned are the Institute, S. Andrew's lialls, thea tn., Catholic Cathedral and the Circular Church. At last accounts from Charles ton, up to five o'clock thi I morning, Dec. 12th, the fire had crossed Broad street and was sweeping furiously on. The telegraph lines to Charleston are down, consequently we are not able to state whether the Eire has ceased or not. BRANCHVILLE, Dec. 12th, 5 o'clock P. 11 —The fire is still raging. A thousand houseless persons are huddled in the streets. The express train left Augusta this after. noon with provisions to supply the wants of the sufferers, and men to assist in con- trolling the fire. The Victory at Cheat Mountain CiiicrNNATl, Dec. I+s —A dispatch from Phillippi lays that our force at the late bat. tle at "Allegheny Camp," Cheat Mountain, numbered 1800. They came in eight of the enemy, drawn up in line of battle, in front of their intrenchments. They charged upon them and drove them back. A hot fire was kept up dur lag the whole afternoon on both sides, and several brilliant charges were made by our men. Gen. Milroy withdrew at nightfall fully intending to renew the attack the next morning. During the night, however, the rebels silently left their camp, burn• ing everything they could not carry with them. Our loss was twenty killed and thirty wounded. The rebel loss was one bun& red and fifty killed, including one field officer • By this action Gen. Reynolds' front is completely cleared of the enemy, there being no organized rebel force within forty miles of our advanced poets. A detachment which was sent from Phillippi on Saturday, returned last night with ten rebel guerillas, including the no torious Jake Kurn. Boundary Cont roversy Settled WASHINGTON, December 16 --In the Supreme Court the case of Massachusetts and Rhode Island establishing a boundary line between them, was beard to-day.— Hon. John H. Clifford and S. H. Phillips appearing for Massachusetts, and Messrs. Jenckes and Bradley for Rhode Island, and Attorney General Bates for the United States. After hearing the parties the Court passed a final decree establishing the boundary line as set out in the report of the engineers. the decree to take effect on the Ist of March, 1862. This controversy commenced as far back as 1780, and was submitted to the commissioners in 1745, whose award was rejected by the King and his council. Since then the question of boundary has been an open one, but is now settled forever. It is understood that Judge Black, of Pennsylvania, has been appointed reporter of the Supreme Court. E. M. Stanton was not a candidate for the office. Dr. Leslie Lloyd, who was arrested at Vienna some weeks ago charged with sym. pathizing and having intercourse with the rebels, was soon thereafter released. He is now a member of the unconditional Union party of Alexandria. SMITH & PITCAIRN,. ERCHANT TAILORS ST. CLAW STREET. LiuPs-6 bac* Prime Hope for - eale AA. by (no 8) HENRY U.OOLLINB .
