The Departure of our Volunteers, \ ttfeterdny will be long remembered in the city aa marking the departure of one of the finest regimonte «»f mon ever raised in Western Pennsylvania. Accident—Child Killed. —A shocking accident occurred in the Fifth Ward, on Tuenday evening, by which a little girl named Lizzie Waugh wax instantly killed- It appears that the School on Pike street had just been dismissed, about 4 o’clock, and a train of coal cars was backing out from the yard in Laugblin's lot. As the rear of the train passed in front of the school house on the corner of W r alnut street, the little gill, who was about six years of age, Ktlempteil to run across before it. She was knocked down on the rail, and before ttje tiMti could he checked, the wheels of heverul cars had passed over her, literally riiuing the Body into pieces. The scattered m Mains wert* collected and removed to the residence of xnotl»**r, a widow, on Mul berry alley, above Walnut. An inquest was by Coroner Bostwick, and a ver dict rendered as follows: “That the said Elizabeth Waugh came to her death on the •J.id day of April, 1801, in the Fifth Ward. Pittsburgh, by being run over by a train of three cohl cui-s in charge of John Jackson, conductor, mid John Easier, engineer, on the Allegheny Valley Railroad ; and that the said Jackson and Easier are not charge able with any carelessness or neglect of duty; that the managers of' the road are censura ble for cau?ing their trains to back out con trary to city ordinance and not causing a bell to be rung on the front car so backing out."
