In the adjoining counties the spirit grows apace. At Mercer, Latrobe, Johnstown, Al toona, New Brighton, everywhere, now com panics are forming. Oapt R. Coulter, of Greentburg, has raised a company of 150 men, and Westmoreland county can furnish another company if required. A company is organ* izing at Mount Pleasant for the next requisi tion. Another company from Washingun arrived yesterday. The men were then informed that the in-;ruetior.« from the War Department were that the troops should bo moved immadi a'ody. Tmy were instructed thereto report at head-quarters and bo prepared to start for the scat of war at a moment’s notice, Gen. Negiey having received advices to that effet t from the Governor. The companies then re tired to their armories and held an election for field officers, resulting in tho choice of the fob lowing: Colonel, David Campbell; Lieut. Col.’ Norton MiGifiin; Mujor, Alex. lla)g. This will be the crack regiment of Western Penn sylvania, being one of the finest bodies of men we have ever seer, worlhy of the gallant offi cer? they have chosen. The commissions of the new officers have already been issued. But few s troops were sent forward yesterday, and those only detachments of companies gone eastward, including one of forty men from the Shield*' Guards. The remainder of tho troops now here will be sent forward to-day or to morrow. The great bulk of them, including our city companies, are expected to leave by the four o’clock train this afternoon. I’reparetionß are being made for a thorough organization and com plot® arming of the Home Uuaids. In the Executive Committee of the Committee of Public Safety, yesterday, the fol lowing resolutions were adopted : Retolved, That the committee on home de. ■fence bo authorized and instructed to procure on the most advantageous terms which may bo practicable, and with the least possible delsy, threw thousand stand of arms for the purpose of arming the citizens for tho defence of their homes. dissolved, That for the purpose of carrying the foregoing resolution into effect, the several Hankers of this city be requested to unite in placing at tho disposal of the Executive com mittee the sum of twenty-live thousand dollaus. Sixteen Held pieces have also been presented to the Committee by Messrs. Knap, Rudd & Co , which will be immediately mounted and companies organized for learning their use. Several presentations were made yesterday, but we can only note one or two beside those mentioned elsewhere. Capt. W. C Gallagher, of the Shields' Guards, was last evening pre sented with a tine sword aDd other equip ments, by J«e. Yerner, Joshua Rhodes and other friends,at Col. Frickor’a. Col. B. H. Kerr, on behalf of a number of personal friends of Brevet Second Lieutenant of the Blues, J. A Reel, presented him with one of Colt’s best re volvers, at the armory, yesterday afternoon. Lieut. The Mayor of Wellaville had sent a messenger stating that they would not ship the powder until the expenses of pri feclirg it were paid, but it had been agreed that the bill should bo presented to the Committee. Dr. K D. Gazzam, from the same C-mimit tee, stated that he and Dr. M'Cook had vis ited the steamer Sir William Wallace, exam ined the munitions of war on board, and four J some tents, lariats and cartridge boxes. Tfyey had desired the captain of tho boat to delay for a time, and he was now awaiting instructions from this Committee. Hon. Wm. F. Johnston stated that the arti cles mentioned were a shipment from our ar senal, by order cf the Secretary of War, to Col. I am well versed in military tactics, and could drill a ?quad with almost any of your drill sargeants- I want to go. Sixth Ward Home Guauhs. —The citizens of the Sixth Ward held a meeting on Saturday night, which was largely attended and at which the greatest enthusiasm was manifested, for the purpose of organizing a Home Guard. Alderman Rogers was called to the chair and other officers elected. The meeting adopted the resolutions and plan of organization adoj It'd bv Iho Second Ward. Several speeches were made, and all were ready to arm in defence of thoir homes John Hsrpor, Etq , of the Bank of Fitts* burgh, tendered to tho Ward a Dahlgreen gun, which will be made immediately, and placed in service. The example of Mr. Harper should be followed by some wealthy citizen of each and every ward, and thus we shall be provided with an effective Horn** Battery of artillery. The meeting adjourned to meet to-night at 7$ o’clock to perfect the organization. Second Ward Homk Gi-ARng.—a number of citizens of the Second Ward, who had signed a roll (to the number of one hundred and thirty-six) fur the purpose of farming a Home Guard, assembled at the Western Uni versity last evening. John McD. Croasan was called tolhe chair, and M G. Cushing acted as Secretary. The roll was called and ninety four responded as active members, who wen sworn to support the Constitution of the United States and the State of Pennsylvania, by Aid. Owston. A number of non-residents of the ward were admitted by a two-thirds vote.
