King, charged with assault and battery with
intent to outrage Florida B Knox, the Court
charged the jury and they returned a verdict
of guilty of pimple assault and battery, after
•ati absence uf two or three hours.
Jacob Hirahfeld plead guilty to an assault
and battery on It. 11. llarlloy, and waa fined
$lO and costa.

NeeaoD, Wm. Healy, Sebastian Foster, and
Wm. Notter plead guilty to Belling liquor
without lioenae and were fined Jin aDd oosts
each, hicopt Noller who waa mulcted in $l5

alien, who obtained license by piroxv, was con
victed and fined $H> and coats. The penalty
was made light by reason of defendant's' ignor

Ann Oli'ey, of Fulton street, plead guilty to
Belling liquor on Sunday, and was lined sfio

John Kosewcll of the Ninth "Ward, wai
tried for assault and battery. He was stand
ing qn the corner ot Penn and Bald-win streets; 1
with a number of other young men, when
Isaac Printer, a railroad brakeman, passed ;
bearing an intuiting remark be turned around
and was struck by Kosowell. V erdict guilty
and defendant sentenced to pay a tine of J■')
and costs.
Edward H Harry was placed on trial for
perjury, in swearing to an inform a'.ion charg**
ing John H. Miller and Dennis Richardson
with dissuading him from testifying in a case
of selling liquor on Sunday, before Alderman
Miller, of Allegheny,>gaiVt Richardson. It
appearing in evidence that Miller, (a constable)
acting as the friend of Richardson, had given
Harry $3 not to make the information, a
diet of not guilty was rendered.
Elizabeth Griffith was tried and convictod
of stealing seven dresses, a shawl and other
clothing from the house of Matthias VVilkelin.
Cross suits of assault and battery between
C. H. F.isley and Hugh McCue of the Sixth
Ward, were then taken up, but had not been
concluded at the Lime of adjournment.
Ma'-EvcvV Cyclokama. This panorama
will be exhibited for the first time in this city,
at Lafayette Hall, this evening at half past
seven o’clock. The exhibition is varied and
interesting and is highly spoken of by our
contemporaries in cities where it has been.
It embraces a beautiful panorama of Ireland, I
intensely interesting, the paintings 1 eing ©lo
cated in a style which bears the impress of a
high order of genius--vocal illustrations by
K.ate MacEvoy, from the Londo n concert
rooms, who will sing of the finest iribh melo
dies, with harp accompaniumnl by Mie-»
Marie MacEvoy. Master John Spalding will
personate Barney, an'lrish guide introducing
some of Lover’s best song**. Brof. MacEvoy
wfH give a descriptive lecture, Mr. Charles
MacEvoy will preside at the piano, and Miss
Therese Spalding, appeariog in character,will
R ing in favorite duetts Altogether the enter

hope it may receive a liberal patronage. Ihe
Oyclorama will remain a week.
■Westminister College —The trustees of
this institution held » second meeting on Tues
day, when propositions from parties repre
senting those localities where it is asked that
the new college buildings he ereeled, were re.
celved. Tboso from Poland proposed to finish
and donate a building erected for college pur
poses, with grounds and other appurtenances,
estimated at a pretty high tigure. Those Irom
New Uasile said they were authorized, by res
olution of a town meeting held the evening;
previous, lo pledge $12,000 and a 6ite across
Neshrnnock or Sbenango, in Rnynoldslown 01'
Mullintown. Those from Mercer pledged
$10,(100 for a building, $l,OOO to replenish tb-i
libraries of the students, and a choice cf a
square of lots in the borough, in the absenc I
ol the Pittsburgh trustei stbe meeting adjourned,
till Wednesday.

will be published in a short time in “Out*
Paper," the n w Pittsburgh wm kly, publishej
by Hunt & Miner, of the great periodical de
pot. It will no doubt be extensively read, as
Mr. Young is a popular author, whose works
are generally pithy and attractive. With
such contributors the new literary enterprise
is destined to succeed.
Leqislati\e items.— Thu bill exempting
liremon from military duty, ha» been lost in
the House; also that supplementary to the bill
regulating common.schools and that extending
the provisions of the general manufacturing
law to brush makers. A bill has also been
defeated, (intr. ducod BOine time since,) to
change the residence of two cili/.'.'ns of Alle
gheny county to Butler county, where they
h( ped to suffer leas fn m taxation. The hill
was negatived in Gommilteo of the Whole,
and so reported to the Sonato, which sustained
the action of the Gommittee by a vote of twelve
to nine.

J. H. Sqott made a very narrow escape from
bjing'iilled by a borse on Thursday evening.

found near the mouth of xhinlap'a Crook, Fay
otto county, the other day, by aomo flsnerman,
■who drew it out in their aeino. The little
one'a Bkull waa broken and its body bore other
marka of violence. The caso waa clearly ono
of infanticide, but the perpetrator of the out
rage could not be diacovered, nor could any
information be elicited calculated to give the
blighteatcluo to bin or her identity.
SebiousChaboe John Trump, of Fishing
Creek, Dauphin count.)-, was arrested a short
time since, charged hy George Trump, hia
brother, with having choked to death the wife
of Samuel Trump, another brother. George
waß alao locked up as a witness, but wheu court
lime arrived, he made his escape. Last Sun
day morning he was again arrested, and com
mitted to jail, where he will remain until the
April term.

H. F. Brownsun. was arrested on Wednesday
at Newark, Ohio, charged with rubbing tbe
Post-Office at Bueyrus. Ohio. A lot of post
age stamps and a set of burglars tools were

having been concerned in the robbery of the
Zanesville and l\mu.u. l\»n-cffico», and has
been committed to au.-w.-r.

Discharged —John Mason, a colored man
convicted, on Wednesday, of stealing a gold
watch from the trunk of a - passenger on a
steamboat between Cincinnati and Maysville,
was yesterday discharged by ihe Court of
Quarter Sessions, upon a motion In arrosl n(
judgment, made by his counsel, John Coyle,
Esq. The ground of the discharge was that a
conviction hero would be no bar to a convic
tion in Ohio or Kentucky, in one of which
States the watch was stolen, and thus tho poor
negro be made to suffer twice for the same of
fence.
