could not be carried out without such a pro.

apply out of the revenue of the road such .
amount as may be reasonably sufficient for the
payment of employees, the making of necessa
ry repairs, and other necessary expenses, which
have been and may be incurred by him in
opera ng and maintainin g the road, its ap

petitioner. Mr. Burgwin, representing credi
tors of the road, asked if this petition was in
tended to cover the back wages of the employ.
ees, as , if so, he was instructed to oppose the
stoplination. Mr. Hamilton said it was not, as
then was another application pending to ena
ble the Sequestrator to pay the employees of
the road for services rendered in November,
and up to December 9th, which would come up
hereafter.
We have since learned, notwithstanding
there was no decision of the Court roof, nririg
the Sequestrator to pay the wages due em

pany made such arrangements as enabled them
to pay the employees nt the Allegheny shops

ST. PAUL'S CATHEDRAL oN FIRE. Io Sat
turday afternoon at half past five o'clock the
olarm of fire was given and it was discovered
iliat the flooring of St. Paul's Cathedral, just
inside the entrance to the main body uf the
Obtfreb, was on fire. It was extinguished, with
a few buckets of water, and a thorough exami
nation showed that fireliad been communicated
from one of the furnaces, through a wooden
cold air flue, to the floor. The hour at which
it occurred prevented a serious conflagration
which would have destroyed the immense pile.
The damage was slight, consisting in the loss
of the fine, and the tearing dTwn of one or twu
pews, which was done in order to reach the tire.
The circumstanceoccasioned much excitement,
but the prompt measures by which the fire was
checked soon allayed all fears for the safety of
the building.
NOT Assuan.—The rule upon J. K. Edger
ton, Receiver of the Pittsburgh, Fort Wayne
and Chicago Railroad, to show cause why he
should not cease to obstruct T. Haskins Du
Puy, in the discharge of his duties as SeQues
trate?, was mot called up in the District Court,
owing tothe absence of Judge Hampton from
the bench, and John H. Hampton, Solicitor of
the Eastern Division of the Road. For the
same reasons the application of the Sequestra•
for for authority to pay the wages of the emu
pkgryees up-to December Atti, the date of the se
"lntutration, was not considered. The former
case wilt probably be disposed of this week;
the latter as will be seen by an item elsewhere,
bas been satisfactorily arranged.
Tat C. & P. R. R. SEQUESTRATION.—In
the matter of the application for a writ of se
questmtion and the appointment of a segues
trator for the Cleveland and Pittsburgh Rail
road, Hill Burgwin, Esq., stated on Saturday,
in the District Court, that he represented cred
itors of the road to the amount of $20,000, and
asked the privilege of interpleading for them
when the cue comes up. The Cambria Iron
Company hold a judgment for $12,000, and
another party holding a largo claim resides in
Massachusetts, and he desired time to commu
nicate with them on the subject. The privilege
was accorded him, and consequently the rule
may not be argued for two or three weeks .
Tits Daum Comr.—A newsboy stepped
into the-sitting room of a hotel, on Saturday,
and offered for sale "Helper's Impending Cri
sis." After disposing of a copy of it, he ap
prcianhed a man with very owing pro-slavery
sentiments, who no sooner heard the name of
the booknttered than he raised his cane and
diote - the boy out of the place. A witness of
thb affair remarked that the crisis had come
sooner than anticipated.

KEYISEH . :, PECTORAL —Our readers have
doubtless observed a weekly notice of this
medicine in our local columns during the past
six months. For these notices we were paid,
and now we propose to give the medicine one
notice gratis. We have used several bottles of
Keyser's Pectoral in our family, and we hesi
tate not a moment to say that it is the best
remedy fur a cough or cold that we ever used.
Its effects are speedy and certain, and such that
no one can find fault with, if it operates in all
cases as it did in those which came under our
observation. It is not hard to take.—is palat
able rather than otherwise—and creates no un•
pleasant sensations after partaking of it. We
recommend it to all who may have occasion to
use any medicine for any of the complaints
which it assumes to remedy, feeling assured
that it will give as speedy relief as anything in
the patent medicine line now before the public.
