ME PIrrsBURGII POST• The Lock Stich Man. The New York Correspondent of the charles t,.n Mercury says, Elias Howe, Jr., this lucky follow who gets $200,000 a year nialty on sew ing machines, is one of the oddities on Broad way. He is the personage whom no Visitor to our city can fail to see, dressed in :a Quaker cut coat, white cravat, and almost extinguished under. a gigantic hat, which have been the companion of -the supernatural .helmet in the " Castle of Ontario." _ Beneath this flows a hea yy,lream of rich brown hair reaching to the - Fie blades, an inviting people to give it a. pull—an invitation which I have, with 'difficulty, resisted on many occasions. Mr. Howe was the inventor of the sewing machine, though he is not now engaged in its manufacture. His present income is derived .from eve-dollar commissions, which other per sons pay for the use of his lock-stitch princi ple. His patent runs - out in two years ; and, strange to say, the manufacturers are anxions to have it extended. amtismeitts. p ITTSBURGH THEATRE.- . .- Sots Lsssra, .L.m) Mentors STAGIr. DISICTOIL ... . Wr.iv= SORE TUItoAT PLAGUE Min SORE Ttmear.—This quality of seizing hold an causing the expulsion of depraved humors, is possessed by no other medicine than BRANDRETII'S MIAS. They operate only upon the tissues involved in, that is affected by the disease. In fact they seize upon those homers, not so much from preference as from natural affinity, because their life is below that of the surrounding porta, and wh ic h,se Ming on the tl ssues of the throat, that is, around the throat region, produces sore throat, wrt throat pia ice, and the severe headache and fever. Within an hour after four or six pills are taken, there is felt a peculiar creeping in the fart affected, a sort. of collecting up of the diseased humors ready for expulsion. No hurt or weakening effect can ever arise from their use, beeanse they cannot act upon healthy parts. Taken early- they prevent:ill organic diseases.
