The Knickerbocker for this month tells a good story, none the less enjoyable for being a most palpable hit at the way in which "Jones," the "clever fellow" of a Republican newspaper establishment "got out" the paper (The Genuis) on an occasion of emergency, when the editor, Who was a lawyer, was detained away from home in .tv lawsuit. Editor writes to Jones, who was a Democrat, and of course disliked the politics of the sheet : PosKYVILLE, October 2, 1859. DRAB. JoNES Can't come till morning. Get out the best paper you can. Write short ar ticles, and stir up the party for not giving their organs more assistance. E. P. B.—By the editor : Bo emphatic, Jones! Poach 'em on the raw ! Paper owed its existence to the Republican party. Politics its very life-blood. Jones had full powers,,and used 'em. Genius appeared with following editorial from pen of Jones: THE Nmean.—We admire him. We like him. We love him. We go in for him.— We have but one idea, and that is nigger I We have hut one dream, and that is ditto. We preach but one text, and that is ditto. We sing but one song, and that is ditto. We play but one tune, and that is ditto. We go our full length on nigger. We are all over ditto. We are ditto at noon. We are ditto at night. We are ditto all the time. We sleep on ditto. We'll die on ditto. And yet, would you beliere it,'reader, The Genius don't pay Next morning enter infuriated proprietor. " Yon infernal scoundrel !" he roared. Jones evaporated. Stopped by editor just coming in. " Jones," says editor, shaking the paper at him, "Look here; what have you done "Reckon I've , touched 'en, Meraw,'" says Jones. •' You've killed the paper" cried the pro prietor. " You've ruined ins," exclaimed the editor. " How did you come to write such a savage article?" asked the proprietor. 71; stir 'em up a little," says Jones. "The thing's outrageous!"says the editor. " It is a little emphatic," says Jones. Finale—Rush of Democrats and Republicans to printing-office. Former exultant, latter savage beyond bounds. Jones relieved from further assisting in the editorial department of that paper, and set up by Democrats as editor of a new Democratic paper then and there started, in view of Jones' manifest ability to "stir 'em up," and "touch 'cm on the raw." pITTSBURG II THEATRE.- Sass LESSEE, AND !TANAGER I B. In acute cases they are more speedy in their relief than any Pill now offered. They operate only upon the tissues involvedin. that is affected by the disease. In fact they seize upon those humors, not so much from preference as from natural affinity, because their life is below that of the Surrounding parts, and whieboettling on the tissues of the throat, that is, aroun .t the throat region, produces sore throat, sore throat player, and the severe headache and fever. Within Cu hour after four or six pills ariNtakezi, there is felt a peculiar creeping in the part affected, at sort of collecting up of the diseased humors ready for expulsion. No hurt or weakening effect can ever arise from their use, because they cannot act upon healthy parts. Taken early they prevent all organic diseases. Themes - ' '' ' TRADES AND OCCUPATIONS. IT is our purpose to write, as briefly as pos sible, concerning the diseases and disorders incident tot rtain occupations, including their causes, symptoms and mode of cure. We shall do this m plain language, and in a straightforward way Our purpose is two-fold— firstly, to give some curious facts not generally known; and, secondly, to bring more forcibly to view the ready relief at hand. in.R.adway's Remedies. We frankly avow that the trouble we are taking is a business transaction, meant to benefit both the public and ourselves. - The diseases springing from various trades arise either from the very nature of the occupations, from the ma terials handled or used, or from both causes. Scarcely any of these pursuits are neces_sartly unhealthy, but men will be as imprudent in their business as in their pleas ire, and suffer for their neglect of precaution. Let ns look first at those who suffer from poisonous materials. thypr, swaths, Brass Firtmdtrit, Braers and Pismakers From theirs aniptilation of copper and its cc - impounds, take into their system either the impalpable dust of its oxides orsalts, or their fumes. The result is a copper disease, whose symptoms may vary more or less in mos fence sometimes creeping slowly along until the sys tem is utterly destroyed, or else opening an avenne to more apparent diseases. The victom to the copper dis ease notices, perhaps, on rising in the mornings slightly add taste in the mouth, a slight constriction of the throat, the tongue dry and parched, arid emrietimes sick ness at the stomach. Ffse thinks he has eanght.eold, and probably takes some advertised expectorant, which leaves him worse than before. At times there comes an attack Of the colic. If dysentery is at all epidemic, he Is very liable to be attacked, and his tormina and tenes mus, as the doctors call them, namely,. his pain in the bowels and disposition to etool, are exceedingly violent. Often a thirst which he minnot account for, or a distend ed abdomen, or back stools, slightly Streaked with blood. or an undefinable anxiety, is the commencing symptom and is scarcely noticed. Cramps sometimes snake their appearance in the limbs and stomach. either alone or accompanied bylsorne of the Symptoms previously enu merated. A hesulache at the close of work, or during the day, is quite common. A preventive of these would be the use of a respirator, which checks the passage to the Mugs of stomach of the 'dust or vapor, and gloves, to keep it from the pores of the skin. A generous diet should be used, the bowels kept operihymoderete doses of Ractwaye Regulating Pine.; a dose should be taken in the morning and evening of Radicals Ready Relief, and the use of R adirates Renovating Res&rent persevered in until the system is rid of the poison Perteren:. Printers. Plumbers and Waxier:, and 11 - eskers in Menu tartaric; or Shot-Towcrs. are exposed to the lead disease This, like the copper disease, may produce a series of insidious but scarcely noticed symptoms, ending sometimes paralysis, or more especially with painters and white-lead makers, in what is generally called painters colic. These all, at taxies, will notice in their mouth. Mare particularly at rising, a sugary and slightly astringent taste, constriction of the windpipe, pmu and uneasiness in the region of the stem o h , anding. revasionsdly nausea., followed sometimes by mit Or those who use much vermillion, will have a ten dency to lairrlites, for, unlike Copper, this shows its ef fects more in the small intestines; and the bladder and urinary pasiesges will Le seriously affected, sometimes merely producing, palatal urination , and at others, bloody or high colored urine. The Regulating Pi/I and the It<solrod must be mainly relied on, and the Tarbes should never go to work on an empty stemach. For the mere painful symptoms the Ready Relief will be necesa ry, and will by no means belie its name. It should be used internally and externally. In painters' colic, the Riga/if:mg Pile should be used to produce a free evacu ation. and afterward more moderately, to keep up regu lar action; and from the very start; the Ready Relief -giv en in full doses, in flaxseed or slippery.elm tea. or gum water. The diet should be light, chiefly beef tea. (not beef soup., or chicken" broth, from 'which the lit has teen skimmed. In paralysis, the persistent use of the Reetantoig PdLi, with the Ready Relief, well and steadily rubbed into the affected limb or part, for at least fifteen minutes, three times a day, and a generous, but digest ible diet, will effect a cure, In all external application the palm of the hand is the best to rub with, and a fe. made hand, front its softness, should be preferred. piers and Calico Printers Are liable to several severe symptoms. Those who use muriate of tin sometimes perceive its effects in tifeir systems. They observe an austere taste in the mouth, which is apt to turn into well defined metalic ore, to gether with nausea; especially after rising from a meal, Their pulse is more small and hard and beats more fre quently than natural. One very common symptom is a frequency of stool, not diarrhea,.for during some months this may be unattended by pain, and the comae teney Of the evacuations be normal. Twitching of the face and extremeties is less common, but a more dan gerous sitnptom, for unless promptly met, it may be fol lowed by a paralysis of the parts affected. The treat ment in this is the same as in the copper disease, viz; Italway's Ready Relief, Regulating Pills and Resol vent.- 933,734 19 Are eomet Imes affected in a manner similar to dyers, bat in a less degree, Their attacks are rare. If peculiarly suscepuble they may take the lead poison from the Sol der, but we never know bat one case of that kind. The acrid fumes of charcoal, in this and similar trades, some times. roduce inflammation of the bladder which miry• be el e'etually combatted by the Relief and Regulating tio - astonally suffer some most distressing symptoms— the former from the showy greens they use, and the latter from their constant hanff ling of arsenic or the cor rosive chloride of mercury. A. tinted breath is not un common, with a rather austere taste at times, consider able increase of saliva, or constriction of the lower part of the throat, which seems to extend into the breast, frequent hiccough, sermetimes it fainting sensation which comes and goes very suddenly, very b la ck and offensive stools. or high colored urine. These are some of the symptonrs'which may occur separately or together. It Is a curios fact that some people engaged at these oc cupations. row quite plump, and apparently enjoy the best of he ath, having especially a fresh and clear com plexion. If, however, they go into any other employ ment, or refrain from work some weeks, they are very apt to be visited with many or all of the above symptoms. In either case. the Resolvent should be used, alongwith the Regulating Pills, the relief being resorted toin order to remove immediate pain or distress. Elisctratypers. Glass Stainers and avd Erbamelers, Manu lacturers of Chemicals. Gold and Silver Raters and Reptant Are liable to many of the above eymptoms. Electra typers are especially liaale to derangement of the blad der. Printers and Type Founders, From the constant handling of type metal, contract the (Abbots of antimony. This is shown by: the -temporary paralysis of the fingers and hands, copious stools, cold night sweats, loss of strength, tenderness of stomach, bowels and throat. Sometimes, though drinking nothing but water, they feel a confused, semi-natozicated sensa tion in the head: The treatment here is gentle purging with Radway's Regulating Pills, aided with the Ready Relief as a drink: when the disease has become chronic the Renovating Resolvent must be used as an adjuvant to the Relief and Pills. 12E0,00 00 - ----$ 19,= us 49,000 00 .Masons and Brieldayers, Assatemta, and more especially LimeSurners and irhitesenehtirs, Are constantly liable to vomiting, pains in the limbs or temporary pal ..v, whice latter sometimes becomes per A milk diet, mucilaginous drinks, and the use If. the Ready.
