RAILROAD AND RIVER MATTERS.
Stage of Water
Thirteen feet siiinches water in the channel,
THE SLNIZING OF THE ROCHESTER..—The
despatches to the associated press confirm the
intelligence of the sinking. of the steamer Ro
chester, which we announced yesterday. She
was attempting to make a landing two miles
above Madison, struck a snag, and sunk in a
few minutes. Sixty passengers were on board,
but all were saved. The boat was heavily
freighted, most of which will be lost. The loss
of the boat and the cargo is estimated at about
$25,000.
iron - WATER AT CINCINNATI.—At noon
yesterday the river at Cincinnati was station
ary at thirty-seven feet ten inches.
THE Commissioners of Muskingu:n county,
Ohio, through the N assau Bank of New York,
give notice that ample provision for the pay
ment of bonds of that county, due January 1,
1860, has been made in a tax levy for that pur
pose ; but under the present law for the collec
tion of taxes semi-annually only one-half of the
levy can be collected by the first of January
next. They therefore request holders of bonds
due January Ist, 1860, to present the same at
the Nassau Bank - in New York for the payment
of one•balf of, the principal of each bond—
the balance to be positively paid on the Ist of
July, 1860, with interest.
TILE New York Central Railroad has lately
put a coal burning locomotive n the road.
Smoke consuming coal burners are now a
demonstrated success on the Penna. Central,
Hudson River, Boston Sz Worcester, and other
lines of road the corporote names of which do
not occur at this moment.
THE. Buffalo Expres, notices the arrival of
the magnates of the New York Central Rail
road, Who are on a tour of inspection prepara
tory to making their annual report to the stock

CLARKE'S LIVER PILLS.
The Best Purgative and Purifier before the Peyte.--',A crept
al and Recomniendel Gy Eniinent Physicians.
Da. CLAM/ IL the inventor of these celebrated
Pills, is justly distinguished for his eminent abilities and
scientific research. 'For 30 years in his extensive practice
he experimented in bringing the great desideratum of a
remedial agent to act as a direct purifier upon the hu
man system. In thii he has been eminently successful,
as the numerous certificates from celebrated physicians
show. They are extremely mild in their operation, st
the same time powerful and etTective in removing dis
ease. They never givre pain, as do most purgatives, but
allay it in all cases. In acute cases they are more ipeedy
in their relief than any Pill now offered.

Stir Song THROAT PLAGUE AND SORE
Tußosr.—This quality of seizing hold and causing the
expulsion of depraved humors, is possessed by no other
medicine than BRANDRETII'S PILLS. They operate
only upon the tissues involved in. that is affected by the
disease. In fact they seize upon those humors, not so
much from preference as from natural affinity, because
their life is below that of the surrounding parts, and
which, eettl ing on the tisanes of the throat, that is, around
the throatregion, produces sore throat, sore throat plague.,
and the severe headache and fever. Within an hour
after four or six pills are taken, there is felt a peculiar
creeping in the part affected, a sort of collecting up of
the diseased humors ready for expulsion. No hurt or
weakening effect cab ever arise from their use, because
they cannot act upon healthy parts. Taken early they
prevent all organic diseases Oh, how important In sick
ness, to use that medicine is loch only extinguishes the
disease, and leaves no evil effects belind.

At mention of this, we imagine we hear many a mother
exclaim, "from this, 0, God, deliver us." But many
have suffered, and still are suffenng, from this painful
cause. Permit us, itL all kindness, to suggest the use
of Kennedy's Medical Discovery; it has cured ease,
of long continuance, and of a most aggravated nature.
Why then—afflicted one—should it not cure you t /Mrs.
Mary Smith, of Brighton, Masa, was cured after an ill
ness of four years. Mrs. Martha Jones, of Roxbury,
Mass, was deprived of the use of her hint:a by this trou
ble—three bottles made her perfectly sound. Mr,.Ches.
tor Morse, of Roxbury, Mass., was cured by the use of
limo bottles. The two latter cases are within a stone's
brow of Mr. Kennedy's Laboratory, and when a man's
',an neighbors praise him. it is not without ,use.
