SATURDAY MORNING THE ART ASSOCIATION. We have already announced the project of an Art Exhibition to be given in this city during the present month. In order .that it. should-prove a completesuccess it is indispensable that the public generally should : take- an active interest in it. The ,gentlemen who are engaged in the move *ment, deserve, and should receive the en couragement afi - d assistance of every liberal minded citizen. The sculptor, painters, and MUSiCaTI:S of Anieriea have achieved many distinguished successes. There is no reason why the artists and lovers of art in Pitts biitgliehould not share a - portion of the haftort. --If ':artistic taste is to be stimulated it must be by the people themselves. It is the genuine and hearty enthusiasm of the public Which gives vitality to the art exhibi tione. I.ti.a:madffiftted fact that the encouratte ment and development of the artistic re sources of a people are the Mirest-sign of its power, and of the material progress of the country. The arts of peace can only be sue cessftilly cultivated when a nation has reacheda high degree of refinement and cul ture. AmeriCan art is free, and depends upon a free people for its encouragement. In Eu 'rop'ean countries the government and aris- Mcrae) , are the main reliance of the artist. Here tie' looks to the people for approval and suppor L. Here art appeals to the masses of the people. As we grow in wealth and Material resources so we progress in re finement and artistic culture. An appeal is now made to the citizens Of Allegheny County to recognize and support a measure for the development of art or an artis tic taste in this community. Superior cul ture ...nn.d, refined taste are an ornament to any community. Let us show that it exists among us. We have now the opportunity ; let us - not neglect it.. For qnce let us sink selfishness and devote a portion of our time and: of our means to the pure, the true, and the beautiful. Let us for the notice forghi the material and strive to cultivate a tact e fc. the intellectual, Art appeals directly-1,1 our most refined tastes-and noblest nr-tme„,. Let us answer the appeal by giving a rzetfat ons support by every means in our pON% Al to the first Aft ExhibitlOn of Pittsburgh. Persons who are the fortunate - of merdoriotisml hand some pictures, will - perform a pleasant public duty by biatiin g theM' for the purposes of thiS exhibition; even at the ex - pense of some little Meonvo Mence to :themselves. They will be \yell taken care of and safely returned. This will give the country an oppo4uniCy to read, digest and inform them selYes of the true condition of the republic, While the factions in Congress are squabbling over minor, m at terr. It was mentioned yesteiday that well execu ted $5O and $lOO counterfeit notes on the Phil adelphia Bank had been discovered in that city. It appears that 'Messrs. Drexel & Co., banking- firm of that city, received from New York, on Tuesday 'mu-Elit:, a remittance of $3,000, which was coon after depoci Led at the Philadelphia Bank, without the least stipi- Mon of tiny thing being wrong. One of their clerks subsequently on benring , tbat counter feits on the bank had appeared, proceeded to the institution, and on examination by the offi cers the whole package was found to consist `lif counterfeits. The party in New York from whom the package was received. are known, but they no doubt were deceived, as the cnun terfeit is so admirably exeeated. The Ledger says: So well are they executed that they have been taken at the counters of several of the city banks, including the institution from which the notes purported to be issued. The imita tion of the genuine issue is so exact and the signatures so much like those of • the president and cashier that those gentlemen could searee— ly distinguish between the good and the nod. In addition to the remittance received . by Messrs. Drexel St . Co., from New York, Messrs. Work, McCouch & Co., bankers, received one, which chille from the west: the whole amounting to several- thousand dollars.. some of the counterfeits received at the banks were deposited by well-known business men, who had obtained them from others without suspicion of their character. It was at firstsup. posed that the notes were printed from genuine plates, surreptitiously obtained, but a close in spection of them showed that they were entire counterfeits. The $lOO notes aro printed in blue and dated January 1, 1858. Of the gen uine notes of this date and denomination, but few aro in circulation. The counterfeit 503 are printed soimi in black and others in blue, and dated February Ist, 1859. There never was any genuine 50s issued of that date pritited in blue. The tel that the counter feits were circulated several days ago in the. South, is based upon a dispatch received j here by Presid,nt Robins, from a party in New alrleans, stating that $4,1510 in $lOO hills of the Philadelphia Bank were in their hands, and u,king if it was all right. Mr. Robins thinking it was not all right, so telegraphed in reply. It is suppused that the counterfeits have been circulated largely through the South and West. Wood and R.tiElk PITTS , ARTIPICIAL IT is well known that first class Dentistry has been beyond the reacli.of the mass of people on account of its costliness, and the majority,' rather than take up with the inferior workmanship of “cheap Dentists," hare adopted the wiser course and dono without any; for it a set of teeth be imperfect in work • manship.and inexact in 6t, it is worse than useless and dear at any price, 'fil E CORAIATE AND PORCELAIN TEETII have in augurated anew era in the science •of dentistry—being the very beet Artifietal.Teeth now in use, they ran be afforded at prices that place them within the 'reach of all. Being the first to introduce these new styles ,of work to this community, I accordingly fixed such prices as I deemed would remunerate the heat artistic and me chanical skill. Since then, however, the unprecedented favor with which the work has been received, bas corn -pelted other Dentists to adopt it, some of whom wish to retain the old gold plate priceS, which I consider would be exorbitant; for, though the new styles are really more valuable than the hest gold work, they are made of hiss expensive material. The increased amount of work done also compensates for the reduction in price. On the other baud, a few Dental Quacks of this city, who possess neither mechanical skill or common hon esty, advertise the work at prices slightly less than my own. notwithstanding thee have neither the ability hor the right (W being patented) to. manufacture it. The object of this trickery is merely to obtain an opportu nity to disparage this Nralite and Porcelain and recoms, , mend some of their own worthless work. . _ • .. • .. I have felt bonne], in justice to myself and the public, to mak, known these tants., - - Th. qualities of the PORCELAIN AND CORALITE PLATE TEETH, which establish their great suneriority over the best gold or other meadie plate are—endre free dom from all meathe taste, smell or tarnish, being-in corrodible and impervious to. the juices of the rnouth: perfect .adsptation fit. (impossible in metalie work,) whieh, with much greater strength and lightness, ena bles them to be worn with more ease. comfort and atilt- . ty. They are also far more durable, less liable to acci dent and more easily repaired.
