The quo warrant° case of the Commixsioneis of Washington county has, we learn from an extra Review, been decided by Judge Gilmore against the Commissioners. Thepurport of his decision was that the levying of a tax by the Commissioners on the county to pay the inter est on the llempfleld Railroad Bonds prior to the completion of the road to Greensburg, was illegal and was held to be a misdemeanor on the part of the Commissioners. The levy, of course, was set aside ; and the effect will be to oust the Commissioners from office. The case, we learn however, has been carried to the Supreme Court on a writ of error. The decision directly con tradicts that of Judge Grier of the United States Supreme Court ; and we may look in the further progress of the case for some inter esting legal controversies. The decision has thrown Washington county politics into a state of beautiful confusion. The two parties are seeking to see which can repudi ate with the greatest effect. The Democrats claim the decision as a victory for their princi ples, since the decision came from a Democratic Judge. The Republicans insist with equal pertinacity on ascribing the whole to Republi can influences, from the fact that the Associ ates are of their school of politics. And com ing as it did on the eve of election, it created the greater stir. Extras were issued, circulars sent to the faithful ; and everything possible was done to secure votes. Their success we shall shortly learn. DR. SCHENCK OF PRI L....DELP/I I A.—We take pleasure in inviting our readers to the arrival of Dr. Schenck, a physician. of Philadelphia, in diseases of the chest, lungs, and adjacent or gans. We learn from our friend Dr. Keyser, that he has come out here at great sacrifice to attend to a few patients who desired his servi ces. Dr. Schenck's ability in these diseases is without question, and we readily accord our own testimony in his behalf from a personal knowledge of his abilities, having experienced the benefit of his treatment in our own case. 'We believe he will remain here until Saturday next. All who may be unfortunate enough to need: his services, should call on him at Dr. Keyser's, 140 Wood street, at an early day. CHARGE OF MALICIOUS Miscuir.v.—A man named Joseph Bell was committed to jail by Mayor Weaver on Tuesday, charged with ma licious mischief, under the following circum stances : Mr. John Wells had rented a house in Heisville of Mr. Arthurs, of which Bath claimed possession to which he had no riht On Monday Mr. Wells commenced haujing his goods to the house, which being unto/tiled and placed in the hall, Bell carried in, and threw ont the back door, breaking several] ar ticles in pieces. Mr. Wells requested h'im to desist, but Bell did not heed him, whereupon the former came to the city, and swor 'e out a warrant before Mayor Weaver, which.' officers Wray and Hamilton were sent to se4ve. On reaching the house, the front door was closed, and Bell refusing to admitthe officers .they broke open the door. 801 l was found picked in an upper room of the house, with his\ wife, whom the officers heard remonstrating with him upon some meditated violence. On beUrsting open the door of the room. Bell was difscovered with a razor in one hand and a brick! in the other. Officer Wray's revolver soon brought the des perado to terms ; he was captuEed, brought to the city and committed to jail lhy the Mayor. Bell has borne the reputation! of a desperate character heretofore. NEW COUNTERFEIT BILIA ANT/ COIN.— Among the latest new counterfeits, is a five dollar bill on the City Bank 40f Philadelphia. The vignette represents the signing of the Dec laration of Independenee--giti's head on upper right corner, and boy's head on upper left corner. It can be detected by observing that the figure in red, on either aide of the vignette, in the genuine strikes through the note, and appears on both sides, while in the counterfeit it appears on the face of the note only. An elegantly executed counterfeit on the Bank of Commerce, Philadelphia, is in circulation. A better counterfeit is rarely seen. The plate is_ excellently engraved, printed on good paper,- and, except that it is paler than the genuine, is a perfect fac simile. It is said That counter feit gold dollars are circulating vary freely in different psrtc. They are made of heavy metal coated with gold, and the imitation of the gen uine is so perfect that it requires a good judge to detect the fraud. ASS/ATVS' A.tiD BATTERY VS. Munn & Barton, on Pennsyl vania Avenue, near the Canal. Tho property =mostly frame dwellings, belonging to Wm. Alexander, Esg., was destroyed: as was also the fine mill of liessrs. Munn & Barton. It Is but a short time since this mill was destroy ed to the amount of about $4,000, by the bursting of the sewer which ran under it, and now it is destroyed by lire. It was used as a Feed and Grain Mill and fur manufacturing Agricultural Machinery. The damage by this lire is from $l2 to $15,000. We were unable to learn anything regarding the insurance.— The fire is supposed to have caught from some of the bonfires, made to celebrate the election. • • • .7 : • ) 01 ) ;.r't wne ALTERED .NovE.—Tens, alterisi from one dollar bills, on the Bank of Bordtenown, N. As soon therefore as any afflictions of this kind are perceived, we may rest assured that the digestive organs are out of order The first and only thing to be done, is to adinimeter a specific which will act directly on the stomach—the main-spring of the an imal machinery.
