PITTSAVAGII POST
DlPPlifg.:Chiftles- Lamb. - -
" Coleridge," says me a
ludicrous 'embarrassment 'which - Larnli'S'sterci
mering caused him at _liaStings• Lamb had
been medically advised to a course of sea bath
ing, 'accordingly at the 'door of•:his bathing
machine, whilelhe stood shivering with the cold,
tiro stout fellows laid hold of him, one at each
shoulder, like heraldic supporters; they `Wait-,
ed for the word of command from their princi
pal, who began the following oration'to them:
llear me, men ! Take notice of this': lam
to :ho dipped"—
What more he would have said is unknown
to land or sea bathing machines ; for having
reached the word dipped, he commenced such
a rolling fire of di di di di, that when' at length
he descended, a p'omb upon, the fell ,word dip
ped, the two men, rather tired of suspense, be
came satisfied that they had reached what the
lawyers call the "operative clause of the sen
tence," and both exclaimed at once—
"Oh, yes, sir, we are quite aware of
. that ;"
down they plunged him into the sea.
On emerging, Lamb sobbed so much from
the cold that he found no voice suitable to his
indignation. From necessity he seemed tran
quil, and again addressing the men, who stood
respectfully listening, he began thus :
"Men,is it possible to obtain your attention?"
" Oh, surely, sir, by all means."
"Then, listen; once more I tell you I ern to
be di di di "—and then, with a burst of indig-.
nation, "dipped I tell you."
" Oh, decidedly, sir." And down the stam
merer went a second time.
Petrified with cold and wrath, once more
Lamb made a feeble attempt at explanation.
"Grant me patience; is it mum-um.murdcr
you me-me-mean ? Again and a-ag-again I I
tell you I'm to be dipped"—now speaking se
riously, with the voice of an injured man.
"Oh, yes sir," the men replied, "we know
that—we fully understand it ;" and, for the
third time,.down went Lamb into the sea."
"Oh, limbs of Satan !" he said, on coming
up the third time, "it is.now too late, I am—
no, but was, to be .di-di-di-dipped only once."

RUMSEY. A. NEWCOMB'S
ORIGINAL CAMPBELL MINSTRELS, BRASS BAND,
and Double Troupe, and the only Campbells now
in existence; all others assuming the name are nothing
more than mountebanks and Imposters, not to be trust
ed. We caution the public against such.
The advantages the Campbells enjoy above any other
Minstrel Organizations, arise from their wintering the
last twelve years in the Southern country. Their delin
eations of Negro Character are taken from natural scenes
and incidents in African life, and aim at presenting the
Musical and Comical peculiarities of the Southern Negro,
and elevating him to his proper standard of Natural Wit
and Musical Talent, presenting the phases of Negro Life
on the Plantatioo, and representing the musical capabil.
ities of the more refined Negroes of cities and vitlagea.
In representing truthfully the Shades and Peculiarities
of Negro Life, the universal accord has stamped the
Campbell artists unapproachable and defying.
