GAZET-ru,!4•ltoointAcKs
The f - :.2z,ttc is getting very uneasy at the
popular feeling which so manifestly exists
in the connty in favor of the Democratic
ticket. Its attempt to charge upon the
'Democracy certain alleged direlictions,in
the Commissioners' office, has fallen IK-tint
less upon the public ear. The proof of its
:assertions was lacking, and some of them it
has 'already been ohliged to recall, as, for
instance, the one that the tax collectors of
the First and Sixth wards paid over a por
tion of the railroad tax to the Commission
ers. These gentlemen totally deny the Ge
zetfr's assertion. The public look upon thi
charge from the r - iezettr, as a purely person
al one, unsusfained by a particle of proof.
There was a time when an assertion front
the Gazette was good autarity, but that day
seems to have passed away. This question
is not one of politics, but of personal hon
esty. It vi , e la-lieved that the peoph, con
nected such acts as the (i,rette efoiri,,, lint
does not prove against. Messrs_ M'llhenny
and Tomer, in the slightest degree with the
party to which they belong, we might re
tort upon Mr. Perkins, the:Republivan Cone
missioner, with similar charges, hut, what
tlie County Commissioners have done, or
.have not done, they themselves must answer
personally, and the parties to which they
belong cannot be held responsible there
for.
But, if the people, at the coming elec
tiion, place in the I !on - un iF,si office an
incompetent man, they will have theinselve ,
to blame. There is no reasonable compari
-iion to be instituted betiveen , the DeMocrat
ic and Republican candidates. The former is
trustworthy and most eminently compe
tent—the latter is Jonathan Brauff, and,
'beyond -his name, the people know nothing
Before'vbting for Commission
er, we advise every citizen of the county to
inquire who Mr. Brrintl is, and what are his
capacity and acquirernents to fulfill the du
ties of the office for which (unfortunately
for him) the Republican party have placed
him in nomination. Mr. Campbell's pecti
fiat• adaptedness to the performance of
public services like those required in the
Commissioners' office, is well known to
- every citizen of the county. r Inc such man
as he is worth more to dm pithile than a
dozen men of the moderate capacity which
the RePUblican party seems to deem requi
site for the office.
In its desperation, the Gazette pitches into
the County Commissioners for having issued
warrants in renewal of warrants' which had
been limed by Republican Dbards-Af POLllllliS
sioners—not Democratic—to pay interest on
railroad bonds some years ago. The amount
his about one thousand live hundred dollars.
`The Republican Commissioners Wiled the war.
rants: the county was bound by their act, and
-now the Gazette complains that the public off!e
cars of the county have done an official act
Which it was their duty to do—issued new war
rants to take up or renew the old ones. The
Gazette's attempts to " raise a tempest in a tea
pot" are singularly unsuccessful. Knowing
that the Democratic party have nominated a
ticket which is beyond and above its attacks, it
has turned its attention to " raising a dust "
about a variety of other matters. rt finds it
up-hill work to advocate its :own "pakty ticket,
which it does not like, and in crainti attempt
to iinpugn the integrity and competence of the
men nominated upon the Democratie.ticket.

Building, this afternoon. Mr. Joseph Harri
son, .fr., was in the chair. Thus committee
printed a report concerning its action since
the last meeting of the bondholders. The ap

a rather unexpected temporary adjustment,
and it precluded any special upon the
part of o,m:committee. The latter thought the
arrangement us favorable a one us could be outdo
under the 'circiinishinces, and they acquiesced
cheerfully in the selection of Mr. Charles Ma

After some conversation, the report was
adopted, and the committee was continued.
It was determined to employ counsel to look
to the interest of tho chattel mortgage bond
holders in the distribution of the earnings of
the road under the new arrangement.
The meeting adjourned to re-assemble at the

It puts all former plans of wig-rnaking in the shade. Its
merits are lightness, durability, not liable to shrink,
bears equally all over the head, and easy. and graceful
appearance, showing the development of the forehead
true to nature.
Ladies are also invited to call and examine his new
