On Tuesday, October 10th, four weeks
from to-day, the SCate election takes place,
and, an view of that fact we feel it our duty
.to ll* upon the Democracyof this county,
as - ref the State at large, the propriety
,atitintioessity: of giving a firm and united
support to the eandi.lates placed in nomina
tirTa Tat': Auditor and Surveyor general.
The gieiit strength of the Derrtocracy has
always resulted from a determination to sup
port the regular nominees of the party,
when fairly ] and, proPerly placed before them
for their suffrages, and no one, however
biased, can deny that Richardson L. Wright
aid. Tolin Rowe,the candidates names
whose are at the head of our columns, are so be
fore the people. The delegates to the Con
vet:alert ',a Harrisburg in March last, by
which
,they were placed in nomination.
were fairly and regularly elected by the re
stieqiVe . C'ontity Conventions : that Conven
tionii:as regularly organized and generally
:acknowledged as the chief organization of
- the - Demotracy of Pennsylvania; and these
Ontletnen, having been openly and fairly
chosen by that body, as the standard 'bear
era :Of 'the• party, are not only entitled to
the consideration of every voter who has
the good of the great Democratic party at
heart, but to his undivided support, and all
the influence he can wield in their behalf.
: And it is not only in this view that all
who profess to be Democrats should adhere
to the usages of the party, but that the
prestige of that party should be maintained.
so that we may be enabled to preserve the
proud 'position in which our State hasalways
stood—that of the Keystone of this great
confederacy of States. We are on the eve
'Of the commencement of a national politi
cal contest, which promises to be more ex
citing than any within the memory of man--
and in order to preserve the integrity of our
party,—and that we may continue. as hereto
fore, - M hold the balance of power in this im
portant struggle of 1860, when a chief mag
istrate of the nation is to be chosen, we
must, unite our forces and bring them
into the ranks in such numbers es will over
whelm our opponents in the present cam
paign, and form such a combination as wil
be irresistible in the great Presidential cam
paign next year.
We have been told that there is an irre
parable breach in the ranks of the Democra
cy , of this State, and our political opponents
have seized upon every pretest to strength
en the supposition and convitiv the honest
adherents to;the old party lines that confu
siortreitms, and that a reunion is impossible.
Bitt all this is idle. There is and can he no
diVWon in the interests or views of the
Democracy of the State. There may have
been trifling disagreements on matters of
policy, but they have all vanished, and we
believe their is not a Democrat in the State,
Who can; - Unless affected towards the oppo
sitipn,;refuselo vote for the candidates on
the State ticket.
Nor need any fear that by giving a cordial
support to the ticket he will endorse any
Matitihose course he is not satisfied with.
Let him bear in mind that in casting his
cots he is defending and endorsing princi
ples, not men, and that his refusal to vote
!blithe regular nominees, will not only foil
to rebuke any one, but seriously endanger
the present success of the party, but damage
our prospects for preserving a clean Demo
cratic record in the more important contest
which will be inaugurated at Charleston
in March next. Prejudices for or against
ILO partlian, will not justify any man who
holds his Democratic birthright in proper
estimation, in repudiating the acts of the
highest Ott animtion of the party, and de
clining to vote for the candidates selected
Wie"
The evidences of returning harmony
among the Democrats of Pennsylvania are
most gratifying, -and all are looking with in
creased confidence for a Democratic victory
in October. When has the Old Keystone
refused to he true to herself in times of dan
ger to the cause of Democracy? Her vote
has controlled the election of more Dem
ocratic Presidents than Any other State. It
has become a prOverb, "as goes Pennsylva
nia, so goes the Union." It f depends solely
upon
.thernselves whether', in the present
crisis, the Democracy of Pennsylvania will
maintain the prestige of their ancient power.
The only hope of the Opposition is in foment
ing dissensions in our own ranks. Demo
crats of the. Old. Keystone, shall we permit
this,to.be done? The reply is coining up
from every . section of the State, "Mo !
The Democracy will abide I T its
usages. ~No portion of the party will suffer
itself to be arrayed against the organization
and regular candidates of the Democracy.

Politician. They regard its success as the
endorsement of the great principles of De
mocracy, and this endorsement they will
give thOU 'great - principles by electing the
ticket in October. " Reconciliation and
Union," are now the Democratic watch
words.„. Those divided opinions which have
agitated the party took their origin in is

claims the name of Democrat can • now

Suicide of the Proprietor of the luternatian-

For some days past, Mr. Vilfr ed Freeman,
proprietor of the International Hotel, and

by exertitiatin,g pains in the head. Ho was at
tended by several skillful physicians, and, al
'though they held out hopes of his speedy recov

that he would never get well again. During
last Thursday his wife and,sister:ia-lawiribtsed
him. A bout hal f- past three o'clock yesterday
afternoon, Mrs. Gilson, hi , sister-in-law, who
was in attendance at. his bedside, and with whom

a short time_ She complied, and during her
el senee . Mr. Freeman arose from his bed
and locked the door, immediately after he took
a razor from the bureau drawer, and placing
himself before the mirror, rut his throat from
ear to ear, and threw himself across tha bed to
die. Mrs. Gilson returned to the room, and,
to her astonishment, found it locked on the in
side. Her fears being imtantly aroused, she
ran to the room where Al Li. Freeman was
sleeping. and requested or to sumo and corn

r,egn, the door still being fastened, they
mounted a hair and locked in at a window,
and saw M r Freeman pr,tate on the bed,
with his clothe.; saturated with blood. The
