JUDGE DOUGLAS AT CINCINNATI The, telegraph on Friday night, or rather on Saturday morning, brought us a complete 4 "'l4Pri'bf fudge Douglas' speech in Ciriein nati on the previous evening. The hour at which the nportwas received, rendered it impossible for us to print .it in our edition of Saturday morning. We have read the speech in manuscript, and find it., as was his • speech in this city, a bold, eloquent and manly exposition of his opinions on the great political topics of the day. Expressly avoiding all reference to the internal cal . questions of the State, he discussed at length; these great principles of universal application, which effect the people of the entire 'country, in which all are alike intet ested, and which he said could be advocated . in Cincinnati as welifas in Louisville—in the .free'States the same as in the sLaveholding States: Whe general topics treated of in Mr. Douglas , Cincinnati speech, are the same as those which he discussed in his address to the people of Pittsburgh,on Tuesday night. Ile:thicussed the slavery question in its length and breadth, and left the Republican party not. a plank to hold to, so convincing were his arguments. As we conclude to-day, the re-publication of Judge Douglas' admirable essay, from Iftirper'S Magazine, we shall not, at tl-• present time, publish his Cincinnati speech. We shall, however, at our leisure, make ex tracts therefrom, of such passages as strike us , of more peculiar force and elo quence. Judge. Douglas' reception in the city of Cincinnati, as it was in Columbus, appears to have been a perfect oration. The telegraph informs us that he reached the city at half past six in the evening, and was received at the depot by four or live thousand persons, amid trtinituous cheers. the Music of bands and - the firing of cannon. No reception speech wits made, as no time was to be lost. He was escorted ton carriage drawn by four ho#es, preceded by two bands of music and taken to the Burnet House, a number of carriages and persons on horseback follow , ing .procession. The sidewalks and streets - 'were thronged as he proceeded threugh Fourth and Sixth streets. Cheer af .. ter Aver from thous:ands welcomed the Lit - tle t ;knit 'a.k.he passed. Aqittle after eight O'Citicie he' began speaking in Court street, Market Space, where, at the hour of dusk. thousands had assembled, and, with bon-fires and fire-works, awaited the coming of the celebrated Senator. When Mr. Douglas made his appearance, he was greeted with immense applause, and some minutes eittitsed before he could be heard. At this ; ;• ;:tiitaitplieyeas than:eighteen to trfenty thou sand'Persons, it is estimated, were on the ground,' the entire square being densely packed.' Though suffering fr'om a bad cold, AtE,.-PplOis then proceeded to address the Meeting. His reinarks were received throughout with the most unbounded enthusiasism, and as he warmed with his subject, he seem ed to carry away the immense mass of people before him by his brilliant and convincing eloquence. If I were unacquainted with the political career of the editor of the Press, it is likely I I should take him, on his own say so, for a pa triot of the first quality—a perfect Andrew Marvel' of purity and high-toned principle. fiat 14044ctViigt;etult getAfver the conviction th.,t .Itis , i/cvatfon to Mr. Buchanan had ,1 spice of ielfiihness ? Who forgets the fact that Col. F. a cabinet officer, and ruuld not make him Senator T Is it not a strange coincidence '.' Col. Forney says he has "nothing to ask" at the bands of Mr. Buchanan—nor at the hands of any pre:sideut, or any Congress ; ambitious only to print "a good newspaper." What a sublime spectacle is here presented ! —a man whose whole life has been spent in the hunt of office,"—who has been clerk to the House of Repiesentatives, and aspirant to almost anything, including a seat in the Cabi net., or in the Senate!—to see such a man vol. 'untarily.sObside into the laborious and ill-paid vocation of printing A newspaper: It is in deed a great self.sacrifice, and should be resisted 'by a bereaved and indignant people. It is an event worthy to be recorded side by side with the abdication of Charles V, and the retirement of Cincinnatus—only they were old and sati ated with 'power, and Col. Forney is so young —"So young, so wise." I shall not hold the grandiloquent. but humble-minded Colonel to his rroth‘r to :ive me a letter to Doutzla., asking' an olliee• •'when Douglas shall be king - -for e,ro, reconsider his resolution, and weary of printing SEPT. 12 his good newspaper—then he will need all thi influence he may have, to get an office for him self Moreover, if he keeps on as he is going now, I fear Mr. Douglas will not agreo with Mr. Forney, when President, any better than Mr. Buchanan agrees with hint now ; for they are wide apart now in their notions of the policy the Democrats of Pennsylvania ought to pursue. I quote front Mr. Douglas' late speech in this city—a document, by the way. that The Press has not yet found room for "Never in the history of this country has the Democratic party ever elected a liver lent without the vote of Pennsylvania. Who elected Washington, Jefler:on, M M on roe, Jackson and Van Buren, and e‘ery Dom- oolitic candidate from that dAy thi, • Were the Democracy ni Pcnn.. - plr•r n•ot going 1., th 'far rump the j,,. 1: , i f ;1,,• JJ Keysthne State, t,, foract their q1,,,.i0rr. it,,S.. 7,1 in the past, and In wheel in f,. the ran 1,, 14 .1 i 0775 or modern /Ic / mbtican; sin tiwy did, it would be their own act, and not the Het of their opponents. [Good and cheers.] The part of wisdom and patriotism was only to re number past Twirl-els in ',dee to profit im them. Wherever there had been past issims that had died, all the asperity which thcy ever created should he buried with them, and U , should only look ahead in the l'ivtare, hlddiq!, forth the hamlet. f Demorrary, with our prin ciples emblazoned on it in clear and unequiv ocal language, and RALLY UNDER TH E ORGANIZATION OF THE PARTY This is what Mr. Douglas thinks—thi:: is hi manly declaration—and so he would act if he were in Pennsylvania. But Mr. Forney says he will withhold from Mr. Rowe his "humble vote." Nay, further—Mr. Forney says of Mr. Rowe, - it' he were our blood brother, we would the more unhesitatingly oppose him.' It will be seen how far at variance he with Mr. Douglas' views. One would "reify to, der the organization of the party - -th, other would not vote for his "blood brother," if he was on the Democratic ticket. But, if the truth must be told, we don't believe Mr. For ney is half as much devoted to Mr. Douglas as he was before that gentleman refused to be come a candidate for the Presidency, in disre gard and despite of the Charleston Conven tion. B. Our city is no less famous for its glass man ufactures than for those of iron. In all its va rieties, from common window glass to the purest flint, Pittsburgh glass maintains a pro eminence in all the western and southern mar kets. It is a branch of business early -estab lished here, and which has been continued with prosperity and success. We nave a_largo number of establishments very heavily en gaged in this business. Among them Messrs. Cunningham & Co., of the Pittsburgh City Glass Works, are well known as a solid, sub stantial, manufacturing house, which annually supplies the market with a large and excellent product. They manufacture wlndow-glass, druggists' glass-ware, and American com-ex glass, for parlor windows, churches and public buildings. The tatter is a beautiful and ser viceable article,. for . the purposes designed. TheY'are prepared to furnish all grades of glass upon as favorable terms, and of as good quality as any house in the city. Their ware house is No. 119 Water street, three doors be low ti.,• Monengahela House. The Senatorial Conferees representing the counties of. Adams, Franklin and Fulton, as sembled at Chambersburg on the 2d instant, and unanimously nominated J. W. Douglas, Esq., of Franklin, as the Democratic candidate for Senator in that district. .T. B. Sansom, of Fulton, was chosen Senatorial Delegate to the State Convention. . The 'Democracy of Monroe and Pike coun ties met in corns-ontion at Stroudsburg, on the 3d inst. Charles D. Brodhead was re-nomi nated for Assembly. L. K. Barnes, &q., was elOcted delegate to the State Convention. C. B. Cotter, Esq., is the choice of Potter county for the Democratic Senatorial nomina tion in that district. AT the request of one of the proprietors of the Gazette, we state that Mr. John Bausinan is not connected With the editorial, but with the business department of that paper, as a canvasser and solicitor.
