Kelly had rendered efficient service in having the grounds all arranged and the halls white washed. A large and attractive building had been erected for the horticultural department, within which ample arrangements had been made fur the proper display of fruits, flowers, vines, .&c. It will also have a much larger fountain, and imitative rock work. Additional arrangements have also been made for the con venience and comfort of persons visiting the hall. The report was adopted. On motion, eg•lev and Heed were added to the Adv.!rtising Committee, &e These gentlem .n were authorized to issue com plimentary tie:et., to editors and reporters of the cities and surrounding counties. The management are making every exertion to make the coining Fair one of the finest dis plays ever held in Allegheny county. .4 Cheap Labor Saving Machine Sewing machines have become an institution in our midst. We have watelied the progress olthis invention with earnest uttention.having lung since been inspired with the belief that no other invention of modern times is likely to prove as beneficial to society at large. .A good sewing machine should be in even household. at whatever cost, as the saving of female health, and female labor, and the increase ,if female happiness is sin ample re turn for the original investment. The,. ins alines should he classed along with railroads and telegraphs, as one of the great inventions of the present age. Yesterday we had the pleasure of examinim7 one of these valuable improvements, of a style but recently introduced in the market, and . were favorably impressed with its apparent simplicity and utility. We refer to the Bra man Double Thread Family Sewing Machine, which is sold by Messrs. Lesseell & Northrop. at No. GO Market street, trp stairs. It is a low priced machine, being furnished at the low figure of thirty-live dollars, but is unequalled for speed, beauty and simplicity. The stitch made by it is the double-lock stitch, similar to that made by the Grover A: Baker machine. using two threads Inuit eononon spook, with• gut rewinding. It runs easily, with but noise ; can be worked, by a fimt treadle, back- Wards as easily as Convents, and takes one thousand to fifteen hundred stitches per minute, on any fabric, cotton, linen, wool CI? silk. It is very simple, not likely to get out of order, and easily repaired; the needle bar being perpendicular and the needle straight. avoids the breaking of needles. The machine has a hemmer attached, which van be had with no other cheap machine, and will quilt, stitch, hem, embmiier and gather with equal facility. It is the only first class machine sold at so low a figure. As far as our observations go, we think the Braman a tip top machine, and would earnest ly advise all who wish to see for themselves, to call at No. 60 Market street, and examine. gents 'are wanted in every part of the Country. After pass ing a resolution to adjourn, the public schools on Thursday of next week, during the County Fair, and granting a recess to such of the High Schools as may desire it, the Board adjourned. THE Gymnastic Association have resolved to celebrate their second anniversary, on the 30th instant, by a grand parade. The membership is large, and as it is expected that all the members will turn out we may expect to see at least five hundred, mounted and equipped, on that occasion. They will, we are satisfied, present a creditable appearance, Coroner's Inquest--Serious Charge oot. On Wednesday morning, Coroner Bostwick was called upon to hold an inquest on the body ' of a woman about forty years bf age, a Mrs. Margaret Gallagher, who died about six o'clock - yesterday morning, after an illness of two weeks, at her house on the corner of Elm and Prospect streets. It was noised about that her death resulted from injuries inflicted by u man named John Gallagher, boarding in the same house with the deceased, and, the Coroner summoned a jury, and had an investigation, at which the following facts were elicited: Deceased was the wife of a mail named John Gallagher, who was killed at an ,alfray at New Orleans some eighteen months since. During her widowhood she has resided in the vicinity of Elm street. and for a year past John Gal lagher, no relation of the woman, has boarded with her. She was addicted to intemperance, and it is said that a criminal intimacy existed between the two. Several of the witnesses testified that they frequently quarreled, and high words were of ten heard. About the 25th of August, Mrs. Gallagher was taken sick, and Sent for some of her neighbors to wait on her to more than one of these she, said Doc " Gallagher (the man who lived with her) had beaten her, and exhibited marks on her abdomen, limbs and left side. On being asked why she did not sue him, she said she would when she re covered, and in reply to one, who asked why she allowed him to do it, she said a woman would take a good deal from a man she lived. It also appeared that Gallagher would do 'nothing to assist her recovery—gave her no attention—and after ho discovered that Mrs. Gallagher WM telling the . neighbors of her injuries endeavored to keep them away (rpm the house, t.dling them she was asleep. On one occasion the attending physician found the house 'long), could not gain ad- Inittance, and Wiintmeleny. Drs. lbapper an. Clanible held a post mortem evalllinati.n of the body. On opening the chest and abdomen they found as large culke lion of cereous fluid , mixed with pus, In the left lung. which was in a gangrenous state. fin further examination it was observed that the fifth rib ha.l been fractured, and that a spicula or splinter had penetrated through the pleura to the lung. making a slight wound, of about one- s ixteenth aim inch iu depth, around which there was much inflammation. The right lung showed evidences of bronchitis, and during the lust few days of , deceased had been troubled with a cough. Around the membrane of the heart there was a large col loction of fluid.' The stomach was soft and injected. The liver wus inuch enlarged, and on the apex of the lower lobe was a diseased spot about the sire of a dollar, corresponding 1 ,, the spat which di,eitsed said pained' her 1111101, and which was relieved by cupping. Found no external marks of violence, except on the Ii rob': none on the left side. 11, was the opinion of li,th ;.hysiciantss that death was ssocasioned by pneumonia of the left lung. They were unable to say what caused. the (nurture of the rib, and the consequent punctur ing of the lung, which produced the inflamma tion. It may have been from a fall or a blow, but it was evidently caused by external violence. The curiae eiTret might ensue from cold, so far the i !hall mutton of the lungs was concerned. Enlargement of the liver often roaulted from intemperance, but the spot on that organ might also have been occiesioned by external violence. Having heard a large inns of testimony, which we do not think it neees-ary to publish, the jury deliberated WI it. and finally returned 11 verdict to the effect that Margaret Galla gher came to her death from injuries received by kick, and blow, inflicted by John Galla gher. Gallagher disappeared at thy• tiuof the woman' death, and has not since been heard ~f, though a warrant was i,sued and search wade. CHILD U itta.i. —A little son of Frederick Holtman, residing near Singer di Hartman's limn Works, fell under the feet of a fart horse yesterday evening, and had a most narrow es cape from being crushed to death. The wheels of the vehicles to which the horse was attach ed, grazed the little fellow's skull, but did not severely injure it. His collar bone was, how ever, fractured, his left ankle injured and his body severely bruised. Dr. Walters is attending the sufferer, and thinks he will recover.
