LABOUCEI E'S PEERAGE.—In an article on this subject, a cotemporary says When railways were in their infancy it was supposed that they would injuretheestates through which or near which they ran, and Mr. Labouchere's father received the compensation of 30,0001. for an imaginary detriment to his property of this sort. After his death, his son, finding that there was no injury to the estate from the vicinity of the railway, but thecontrary, re funded the 30,0001. For Mr. Labouchere this was no act of virtue. Elm was as incapabl , • of retaining what he had no claim to in strii t honor as of changing his nature. With his fine fortune he could afford to ho scrupulous, we may be told ; but what a noble use of a fine fortune to be so scrupulous, and others were not so. The title Mr. Labouchere will take, will be Lord Taunton.--London Ti A CALF STORY.—A country newspaper, ro cording the running down. of a cow on the railway, =aid "I t was cut into calves." An a , - toni.hed naturalist waited on the editor for what the auctioneer:: call " further informa tion," and roreived it in the following form: " Erratum—For calves, read halves."
