If appearances do not deceitie,'-and if Mr. Postmaster Cook can be believed, (which is a huge IF, we • adinit,' . l there will aeon b&sorne rich developments between that official and the Administration. He affects to consider him-.. self as having been badly abused, and,ho seems to be looking forward to the tortures common ly subthitted to by martyrs only. ' Yektkrday he took every occasion to vent his wrath enthe authorities at' Washington—not even sparing the President, who, he complains, is of strange incontinence in permitting the-Post master General to thus "hotind" and • "perse cute" him. His patience is being exhausted. The President, as it is more than intimated by Conk, in his conversations everywhere about the streets, must interpose et once the sovereign arm, and save him from further annoyance, or he shall cause "duplicity in high and lbw plac es" to be exposed throughout the length and breadth of the land. And if he losealits place, he threatens, if not to "make Rome howl," at least to shake the very foundations of,the Ad ministration. Certain developments that are likely to occur hereafter, in this connection. have all along been hinted at by the Postmast er. We do not pretend to "know anything about them. We care very little about them. But the public are lookin" with some curiosity to know what they are. ° Perhaps the Admin istration will he deterred by his threats; we are of opinion, however, that should they re move him, he could say nothing to be publish ed, that would reflect half the reproach -upon the President and the Postmaster General, that is reflected upon theta by his reten tion in office. But, as we remarked yester day, we have ceased to feel any interest in this matter ; and we only recur to it now, to advise the public as to who is at preseut treating Cook. :and how betakes his medicine..- ..• ot , . . • *, .;„'• "Dm you save your ba,„,. ,, ga.ge ?" exclaimed souse sympathiiing friend to gentlethan who had just escaped from a wrecked steam er on the- Miqsissippi. •• Oh yes," • said he, pointing to his wife.
