October next, for the transportation of military supplies
during the year 1810 and 1841, oti the following roams:
1. From Forts Leatienworth- and Riley in the Terri
tory of Kamm.", from Fort Laramie, in the Territory of
Nebraska, or from any point on the west bank of the
'Missouri river north of Fort Leavenworth and south of
latitude 42 deg. north at which a depot may be establish
ed, to the posts which are now or may be established in
the Territory of Nebraska south of latitude 44 deg. north,
in Oregon south of latitude 44 deg. north and - , east of
longitude 114 deg. west; and in the Territory of Utah
north of latitude 4d degrees north and east of longitude
114 deg. west.
2. From Forts Leavenworth and Riley in • the Territo
ry of Kansas, and from the town of Kansas in the State
of Missouri, to Fort Union in the Territory of New Alex

Proposals will state the rate per hundred pounds per
hundred miles for which the transportation will be per
formed on each route in each month of the year. and
may be made for all the routes collectively, for any two
of them, or for each route separately : •
Bidders will give their' natnea in full as well - as their
placesa of residence, and be prepared to executi, bonds
with good security in such nu amount as the quarter
master General may determine. -
Contractors must be • in readiness for service by the
Ist day of January. 1810 ; and as transportation may be
demanded at any time for the whole weight to be trans
ported during the year on all or either of - the routes,
they will he required to have pinees of businea or agen
cies at or hi the vicinity of Fort Leavenworth; Fort Lar
amie:nod Fort Union, or other depot in Now Mexico, at •
which they may be communicated with promptly and
readily.

certified to the Quartermaster Genend, setting forth that
if the party proposing shall be 'awarded the contract,
they Will enter an obligation for its faithful performance.

The barrels mast be - entirely new, and be made of the
beat seasoned heart of white-oak staves and headings;
the staves to be not less than five-eighths of an inch

their charge, for such inspections must he paid by the
respective eontractors, who must likewise have the bar
rels put in good shipping order. to the satisfardimi of
the commandant., of the respective 'navy-yards afore

half the estimated armaint of the contract wilt be requit
ed. and twenty per centum in addition will be withheld
from the amount of each payment to be made, as collat

is to be forfeited to the United States in the event of
failure to complete the deliveries within the prescribed
