PiTTSBIIR,GH POST.
Card from Lion Boyd
The Democratic papers of Kentucky con
tain a card from Linn Boyd. He speaks of
his illness, and says :
lam now convalescent; but I regret to say,
too feeble to engage in the canvass. My phy
sicians, however, inspire me with the confident
hope that I will be fully restored in time to
discharge the duties of the office, if elected.
During my extreme illness, I received numer
ous communications from my friends in Ken
tucky, (some of themFolitical,) to all of which
I would have been pleAsed to have responded
fully, but was physically unable to do so.—
Such was my prostrate condition at one time,
that I was strongly inclined to withdraw from
the contest; but of a number of letters received
from various parts of the State upon that sub
ject, all, with one single exception, urged me
strongly to continue a candidate; and with but
the single purpose of meeting the wishes of my
friends, and as far as possible to aid in car
rying out the principles of the Democratic
party, to which I have devoted my whole po
litical life I yielded thus to the advice given.
Without intending, hero, to discuss the po
litical topics of the day, it may not be inappro
priate for me to indulge in a single remark in
reference to the question of slavery in the
Territories. By the legislation of Congress, it
is clearly the right and duty of the Territorial
Legislatures to give adequate protection to per
son 4 and
_property (slaves included) in the
Territories; and I earnestly and most confi
dently hope that that duty will be so perforin
ed as that no occasion will everarise for ,an ap
peal to Congress on the subject. If, however,
docimed to disappointment in this confident
hope, and from bad faith on the part of the
people of the Territories, the rights of slave
holders should be disregarded and outraged, I
trust that very few wilt be found to deny that
to Congress belongs: the power and the duty to
offer just protection.
Being thus before you as a candidate, and as
such having , been selected as tho object of the
most virulent and unrelenting abuse on the
part of a partizan press throughout the State,
may I not indulge the hope that I shall be fa
wored with the generous support of the entire
Democratic party of the State.

Vegetable Substitute for Calomel

ilSrn Et, dropsiee, and sickness generally, whether chronic
or recent. The celebrated Abernethy says After
having cured the derangement of the bowels, debility
anti all diseases generally disappear of their own areirrtl,
even in a short time." • The experience of a century has
established the worth of these Pills beyond dispute, as a
purgative anti-bilious medicine; and their use by up
wards of 4.900 conscientious physicians, and by over a
million of families, shows that they are supplying one of
the wants of humanity, and are in advance of medical
sciepee. The above pills, although purely vegetable, are
now known and used as a substitute for calomel (fig-
draryvri eldoriolunx Mite..) producing all its alterative
and other indications, with none of its disoromizing ef
fects upon the solids—often crippling for life—or its ills
tressing action upon the teeth and gums. The prepared
concentration from the same principles—the Life Addi
tion Pills—is a substitute for blue-pill (Pibifie/h/drargyri)
possessing the peculiar action on the secretin ic organs,
of that preparation from mercury, but none id its sali
vating or other injurious effects. Those who have used
them, ns a bluopin substitute or otherwise, award to them
the highest praise. They come nearer ton concentrated
Essence of Life than anything yet made, in the way of
medicine, by man. A single pill given daily, when all
hope has fled, has often restored health. In fact, they
supply an organic principle to the blood, always wanting
in extreme eases of sickness. Ohl people have the se
cretions of early youth restored by the Life Addition
Pills. Their value as life preservers is beyond estitnate.
