A xviry 9 LADY STRUCK BY LIGHTNING.— of The sharp report. Liu... 5 r !!"'"' yesterday morning, was doubtless heard by many of our citizens. At young lady, Miss thivaget; daughter of Mr. Thomas Ravage, of the firm of Didage &.Robtuts, pump makers, was sitting at the window of theliunily resi dence, on. pe c on4 street', below Market, in cOmpany with her father aria mother, iflien site Was KV-Ingo:4 by the subtle leaving her insensible. Medical attendance was at once procured, and although the injury seemed likely to prove fatal, she soon recovered, and was believed, in the evening, to be out of danger. The other persons in the room felt the shock, but were not injured, nor was the house damaged by the fluid. .Such accidents are rare, but should warn all, when the air is heavily charged with electricity, to keep away from open windows.. SANITARY PRECAUTION:S.—In the midst of summer all persons are especially called upon to look around their dwellings, and consider rhetber there is not something unfriendly to Wait Vito - Might and knight to ..be Derhoved without:delay. Conetlint , ettention is requsito that nothing offensive be suffered to remain within doors. Liquor in which vegetables have been boilod,.soap-suds, and dirty water of every kind should be immediately thrown away; also cabbage stocks, potato peelings, and offal of every kind. The liquor in which greens have been boiled, if suffered to remain even a few minutes, or thrown down a scullery drain, omits a most unpleasant and unwholesome smell, which provades the whole house. Many very cleanly people are not attentive in this particu lar;o Among Other things that require atten tion fallen ,leaves should be frequently swept up and properly' disposed of. ' Itj (loop every room should be swept 'and dusted daily, care being taken not merely to make a decent sur face bat thoroughly to cleanse under the beds, drawers, tables, and other furniture, and to clean out all closets and lumber holes. Rarey, horse tamer, new traveling in Europe, arrived in' the city yesterday and made information before Mayor Weaver, charging the individual who exhibited here early in the week, as a horse tamer, under the name of B. F. Rarey, with false pretences, in deceiving the public, and damaging the fame and reputation of the gen uine Rareys. On search being made it was as certained that B. F. Rarey had left the city for some other locality. Adams says that the real Rarey is now in Cleveland, and will be in this city a few days hence. The great suc cess of the horse-tamer has had the effect of bringing out a host of imitators. How we, who are not "horse-sharp," are to distinguish be tween the genuine and the bogus is difficult to determine, but presume we must follow the in junction "By your'works ye shall know them" —see all who pretead to the name and judge accordingly. -8,17 A. 81. Nulowa vs. REALITR.—In this age or hum bug, it is almost refreshing to light upon-some thing of the real about it. Such is the impres sion made upon us, by the perusal of the proof sheets of a new work,`about to be published, entitled " The New World in 1859.' It is in tended as a business directory for the principal cities and Canada, for general circulation. We understand that the engravings alone, which will number about two hundred and fifty, have cost about ten thousand. dollars. The views of cities, public buildings, and scenery of the country,_are most beautifully engraved- from photographs and pencil drawings. One of the Pittsburgh series is that attic new iron build ing on Fifth street, and is decidedly the finest specimen of 'wood engraving we over saw. We would advise all of our readers who wish to possess a com plete set of these unapproachable novels, at an extremely low price, to remit five dollars 'to Peterson & Brothers, Philadelphia, or to Messrs. Uinandal We take the following from the money anti de of the New York iferold: There is a good deal of discussion going on in various quarters with regard to the prospects of the money market. Stock operators natu rally look at the future through the me dium of their interests for the time being thus, while bulls seenci prospect of money being maintained at its present value, persevering efforts are made by theopposite portion to nrov that money panics are to be e,ppreiiended tit regular interynl., Yih the cessation or the•war. A. few facts aro very plain. If war creates a demand for niuney 'for ' the sofiport of the ar mies, it diminishes theusual demand. for Aioney for the purposes of 'Puking France as an examp . le, our. latest advice; from Marseilles report that since the war broke out, the trade of that port has fallen away prodi ,, ouely. The same result ie experienced, though to a less ex tent, at Lyons, Paris, and the other great cen tres of manufacturing and commercial activity. Now the business of France, since the success ful organization of the present empire, has been very large indeed; it may be expressed in round numbers by stating that France, in 1816, exported 5450,000,0000 , her own and forsign produce, and imported $.46.0,00a, flireign pro, duce and merchaullize.' F.yen a trilling check to so eln:*elle a trade sis this must throw a largo amount of capital out of employment. Again, manypersons reason as though bel ligerents were lik.ely to deprive peaceful nations of. their specie. Nothing cau be more contrary to the fact, The flow of specie must always be from the consumer to the producer ; from the belligerent to the manufacturer and producer-, It is true that war cannotbe carried on with out money ; and that to get money, such nations es France and Austria will make heavy sacri fices. But the greater the effort to force money up stream, so to speak, the more decided and impetuous, will be the reaction; the more France and Austria may be willing top:ivfor materials of war. in Lombardy, the quicker will their money itn4.: wq. , ,y to the places whore those materialsare produced. • RETtIOVAL. . - w. 8Z D.
