SALE OF THE NORTH WESTERN
RAILROAD.
Under a decree of the Supreme Court of
Pennsylvania, this road WAS sold in PhVadcl-
Oda on the sth inst., the bondholders becoming
the purchasers at the nominal price of sllidam
for the franchises of the road. Much money
has been expended upon this road which is to
run froM the Blairsville intersection on the
Pennsylvania Railroad to New Castle. There is
now reason to hope, as the Philadelphians Ullve
large interests in this road that measures will
be adopted for its completion at least as car as
Freeport. The Blairsville Reeo,-it says ;
We understand the bondholders (now we
suppose, the real owners of the road) will meet
Philadelphison the 22d proximo, for the pur
pose of devising SOllll4 Means, or adopting
measures of some kind to insnre its completion
as far as Freeport; and we sincerely hope their
councils will lead to the aceomplishment of so
desirable a result, as many will louli:with ouch
anxiety to their action on that ocec::inn.
The North Western Railroad is ono of great
importance, not only to the extensive Popula
tion through which it passes, but to capitalists
and men of enterprise in general. lts line run•
through the best and most extensive fields of
bituminous coal that we know of any where,
and we can have no doubt that the beds of iron
ore are equally as extensive us those of coal, be•
cause specimens of the finest ore inay be pick
ed up ahnost any where along the valley of
the Conemaugb and Kiskeminems, and proba
bly along other parts of the Railroad line with
which Wu are not so intimately acquainted.
There is nothing wanting to establish iron
works on the most extensiCkl MAO but intelli
gent enterprise and capital, and if the road was
once made we cannot, doubt that capital would
soon discover where such inviting interests lie.
If the bondholders should not fall upon any
plan to finish the work themselves, then, and
in that case, we would like to see theism enter
into some arrangement with the Pennsylvania
Central Company for that purpose. We be
lieve the Central Railroad CoMpany could be
well adapted to the transportation of all weigh
ty articles, .of which there is at present so mess h
to do, and which Inuit, rapidly increase with
the development of the resources of the country.
Butit iS entirely unnecessary for us to make
suggestions to the Pennsylvania Central as that
road is under the direction and supervision of
gentlemen who will let no matter of interest
pass unnoticed.
National Convention of Iron Moulders.
Delegates representing the i nterest of the iron
moulders of the country assembled in Phila
delphia on Thursday. They represent an in
terest comprising 4,000 workers, and the dele
gates were mainly from the States of Pennsyl
vania, New York, Ohio, Missouri, New Jer
sey, Rhode Island, Connecticut and Maryland.
Other States were informally represented. The
convention mot for the purpose of forming a pro
tective union for their future government, and
for promoting the mutual interests of the mem
bers of the fraternity. Resolutions were adopted
sympathising with the moulders of Albany in
their present difficulties, and also offering thorn
material aid and comfort. An address was also
adopted, calling upon the moulders throughout
the Union to organize for the mutual protec
tion, and to adopt such laws and regulations as
will bestsubserve their local interests. All the
business having been finished, the convention
adjourned after sitting down to a banquet.
The convention is tore-assemble ;it. Albany on

Trouble lu the 'Camp.
The " United Opposition " appears to be
getttng daily into more and more difficulty in
respect to the *Massachusetts doctrine of two
years denial of the right to vote to persons
of foreign birth after naturalization. A dis
position to protest, on the part of the Ameri
can branch of the aforesaid Unity, is quite out
spoken and decided in various quarters. The
resolutions of the Ohio State Republican Con
vention have met with responses any thing; but
harmonious, from the spread-eagle Gibraltars ;
and the Americans in tho Ninth:Ward in the
city of New York have taken occasion, by a
series of resolutions, atones to proclaim against
the partnership which has been entered into.
between the American and Abolition sections,
and to protest against the liberties, taken with
the joint capital stock by the other member of
the firm. They have
