INTir. ix Foil , 'Containing allthe latest newS, full_,reports of the markets, and a great vieriefi of - editorial; loCal,lifisrary and miscellaneous matter, can be had at our counting room this morning in wrappers ready -for mailing. In - clubs of five, our mammoth weekly costs but one dollar per CITY PASSENGER RAILROADS. These :modern improvements, wherever they, aro in operation,. have produced the most satisfactory results. The first great ene , . fit which the3r insure,is the accommodation of the public at a rate within the reach of all ,classes. We :are tibout to have several of these roads built from our own city—one to Lawrenceville, one to Birmingham and one to Mancheitcr=alf flourishing suburban ; - aria . there cannot he a doubt -that they : will result in a vast accommodation to the public, and an increased- valuation of property. That they will prove largely remunerative to the stockholders, there cannot be a doubt, for, wherever they hay° been estab lished they have invariably resulted in a largely increased.. travel over the routes which they occupy: Alter afew months' ex perience with those already projected here, we have no doubt that' passenger rail ways, leading frem the city .in all direc tions, will be. established. That to East Liberty and Willzinritzig . ,,will prove a pitY hig investment ; tind-wo prognosticate that but a very short time will elapse, before the people along the route will insist upon its construction. The beautiful country around East Liberty and Wilkinsburg, must have a pas.senger railw - ay, and will have it,as soon as their usefulness and convenience has been seen on the Other routes. An opportunity will soon be afforded for a cheap railroad ride to Lawrenceville, for we are informed that the Citizens' Passenger Railroad Com pany will receive the iron for their track, next week, and will, at once commence lay ing it down, and expect to have the road in _complete running order to the cemetery gate, by the middle of August As an evidence of the immense amount of travel over these roads, we copy from the. Philadelphia Ledger the following statement of the cash receipts of the various passen ger railroads in Philadelphia on the 4th. The Second and Third street line, with 50 cars; took $1,564; Tenth and. Eleventh, 36 . Cars ,-.51,015 ; Fifth and Sixth street line, 50 tarsi $1,340 ; Race and \lna at., 26 cars, $l - 48';',Arch st., 16 cars, $402 ; Darby mind,. 9-ears, $325 ; Ridge avenue and Girard Col lege, 2 9 cars, $844; Market st., 35 cars, $l,- 000; Spruce and Pine, 16 cars, $459. Ma king a total of 267 cars, and. $7,687. This would make the number of passages 153,740, • for which cash was paid. In addition, estimated that 50,000 exchange tickets were • used on the various lines. The Girard lego_Passenger - Railroad received for 14,315 passages. Such facts as these need eo comment. They speak for themselves. These figures are surprising ; but they do not tell all. For many persons got exchange tickets at six or eight cents, which carried them over two roads, and besides there are a good many persons on the free list. So that it is estimated that the actual number of in dividual trips made was notless than two hun. dred thousand. This represents nearly onet third of the population of the city of Phila.: : delphia, men, women and. children, the ohl and - disabled, the invalids and the childrezi in arms. 'With such a result in a singledliyi who will say that City Railroads are not a great public blessing ? .4I4,EGIIENY, COUNTY WHEAT. The staple crop of the country, the wheat is yielding far more, than a fair average in this part of the country.. We: last week no. tined Some splendid specimens from the vi cinity of Logan'a Ferry. A. few days Since Mr. Robert Miller of Fayette township, this county, brought to our office specimen bends `of Mediterranean and Blue Stem wheat ? filled with `plump grains to the very ends, which were as fine .as we have ever seen. They are from a field of fifteen acres, upon the farm of• Mr. Levi Gregg. of South Fayette township, a brother of Mr. Edward Gregg of this city, and the whole field is equal tothe spechnen. And not only so, but Mr. Miller informs us ,that from the spot where he plucked these heads an hundred acres of equally good wheat are visible. 'fli&e facts are Conclusive to our mind thai we anl to be blessed with an unusually large crop of capital wheat, and that the fears 'caused by the June frosts, were alniost en tirely groundless. e Passenger Railway Dividends. , The 'Fairmount Passenger - Railway Company has made a dividend of seven per cent. from pe earnings of the company for the last ,aix months, payable on and after the :fiftt)aitit instant ; The .Second and Third Street Passenger Railway Company has declared a dividind of eight per cent. on first issue of stock, payable on and after the 11th' inst. I ana well awatarth at the mon wile have com mitted this wrong upon the Democracy feel and know that they have gono too far. The peo ple have lost confidence in the wisdom of their councils, and so the result of the coming elec tion will prove. • I have heard that the excuse which they give for their opposition to the nomination of Judge Maynard, which would have added great strength to the ticket, is that "it would be a rebuke to Governor Packer to defeat him." But the "Democracy still lives," and in spite of the eilorts of those who falsely claim to bo its friends, it will live. The principles of our party faith aro too important and valuable to be overthrown by trickery and attempts to make a party tenet out of material abhorrent to every honest and patriotic Democrat. In their anxiety to insure the success of Mellon & Co., these false Democrats have mis led and deceived many honest men heretofore, but hereafter if ese men will act for themselves upon fair ground.of Democratic policy. The London Nevis merely announces the fact that Lord Palmerston had formed his Ministry—the largest in point of nnmbers, the most powerful in talent, and the most conflicting in the various shades of opinion that it represents, that England has bad since 1806, when Fox was Foreign Minister. The high aristocracy are represented—as well as the Liberal Conservatives, the Sutherland interest, the Peelites, and the Manchester party., Lord John Russell is Foreign-Minister, without a single personal adherent to back him. The moat remarkable circumstance connect , ed with the new ministry is, that, at the ad, vanced age of eighty-one, Lord Campbell hal been made Lord , Chancellor. Every body ridiculed his acceptance of tho Chief Just ticeship of England, in 1850, at the age of 72; and assue6dly a more pragmatical, self coneeited, zarrulous old dogberry never sat upon the bench. Now, almost in his dotage, he accepts the Chancellorship of England, without, we suppole, ever having held a Chanceiy . brief in his lite: As'a Common , law judge, he might. have-passed.twenty years ago, but how Palmerston ever could become a s e etnd *Sinbad, and put such an Old Man pf the Sea as, this upon his shonl ders is a great mysteri. 4ithe session must close in Parliamentary reform and all other important measures, except Finance, =Lust be 4eferied' to anothey'session.
