HORSfi RAILIXOAD.--Speaking of horse rail
rotuls, the Cleveland Platailealer asks,,"What'a
the objection . ? "' and thus discourses on the
subject. The remarks may possibly'apply
here:
The Horse Railroad will very Much ac
commodate . a large class of our citizens.
This is admitted. It won't hurt anybody.
This is true, it tt isn't admitted. It won't cost
the city a red cent. On the contrary the city,
as a city, will reap considerable benefit from it
by way of taxation. Then what's the objection ?
There are, unhappily, very many individuals
who can't Re any good in anything now. They
belong to the pig-headed persuasion. They
wanted to cage the inventor of the steam en
gine as a lunatic.. They desired to put the
originator of the, telegraph in a strait-jacket.
They suggested that the cooking-stove inven
tor's bead be shaved. Their ancestors called
Colurithus a visionary, hair-brained youth, and
favored Galileo withderisivehoots when be in
formed them the world turned round. This is
their style. When any new plan for the bene
fit of mankind is discovered, they "arc at it
agin," ea Mr: Cruncher remarks in Dickens'
new story. The Horse Railroad is a decided
success in a dozen or more American cities, but
when' it is proposed to build ono in Cleveland,
the fogies "are at itfigin." Such is lifi3."
