The Patriot has a lengthy and inter- |

esting article concerning the business |
of the Surveyor General’s oflice, from
that we make the following extracts,
which will be of interest to many of
our readers. Suys the Patriot:
It appears from tha records that
ahout fifteen thousand tracts of land,
upon which surveys have been return
ed, scattered throurh every county mn
the State, vet remain unpatented, as |
against one hundred thousand which
have ben patented,
The titles to patented tracts are com
no diffrence whether they contain |
more or less acres than are called for |
in the patent, as the monuments, or
has no further claims against such
lands, unless, as was frequently the
case, the patentee gave a mortgage or
special lien thereon.
The amount vet due the State on
the several unpatented tracts are not
pro rata the same, because the price of
land was not uniform in all parts of
the State, but was fixed at different
rates, per hundred acres, ine diflerent
sections and at different periods.
Ou some tracts part only of the pur-
chase money for the warrant was paid
for m full, but a larger number of acres
was re urned than the warrant called
| for, which excess, with interest from
the date of the warrant, and the fees
remain unpaid.
There are two classes of titles known
'
remain unpatentea ) the State has nev-
er recaived one eent, and therefore the
whole amount of the purchase money,
with interest thereon until paid, and
the fees, remains due. These are tech-
| nically known as applications, which
| are situated mainly in the eastern and
middle portions of the State, and as
tion of a mirage of unusual splendor:

| dockets, from amonest the almost in.
| terminable mass of accumulated re-
| cords in the Land Department requir-
ed a vast amount of research and cal-
| culation, and much labor and time, so
that these acts can scarcely be said to
have taken eflect until the present
year, although over ninety thousand
dotlars was paid into the treasury in
one year, during the term of Hon. J.
P. Barr, late Surveyor General,
About nine months of the current
official year have now elapsed, and
during these nine months over three
| thousand applications for patents have
been received and $120,000 paid into
the Treasury through the Land De-
| partment for purchase money, interest
and fees, and as one-fourth of the year
yet remains, it is confidently expected
that at least $150,000 will be reached.
But a few years, at the average rate of
tha last five months, will suffice to fin-
Lish th pa‘eating of the lands in the
| State. Ttis certainly the interest of
| the land holders us well as the policy
of the Commonwealth to have land u-
tle: settled, 4
The legislature of 1868 passed a
“stay” law restraining she Attorney
General from proceeding against these
lands for one year from the date of
sending the lien dockets to the respec
tive counties. - The dockets were sent
to some of the counties a May, 1869,
to others at a later date, and the Tast
were sent in November of ithe same
vear, so that in November, 1870, the
ie will have expired in all the
counties, while in many, such is now
the esse, and in all these all lands re-
maining unpatented are liable to the
action of the Attorney (ieneral at any
ime. Some of the counties have been
and ave still very active in patenting,
while others bave been rather tardy,
hoping, perhaps, that favorable legis-
lation in the future, as in the past, will
sive them relief. This is a vain hope,
for it is not inthe least probable that
any law will be passed exempting this
clive of debtors, since the great body
of the people. have paid, an (ull, for

TORENDER EXISTENCE DESI RABLE
If you are suffering, or have suffered
from involuntary discharges, what effect
does it produce upon your general health ?
Do you feel weak. debilitated, easily tired?
Does a little extra exertion produce
pitation of the heart? Does your liver, or
urinary organs, or your kidneys, frequent-
ly get out of order? Is your urine some-
times thick, milky or flocky or is it rop
on setting? Or does a thick skum rise 3
the top? Or is a sediment at the bottom af-
ter it has stood awhile? Do you have spells
of short breathing or dyspepsia, ? Are your
bowels constipated ? Do you have spells of
fainting, or rushes of blood te the head?
Is your memory impaired ? Is yonr mind
constantly dwelling on this subject? Do
you feel dull, listless, moping, tired of
compuny, of life?"Do you wish to be left
alone, to get away from everybody? Does
any little thing make you start or jump?
Is your sleep br ken or restless ? Is the lus.
tre of your eye as brilliant? The bloom on
your cheek as bright? Do you enjoy your-
self in society as well? Do you pursue your
business with the same energy? Do" you
feel as much confidence in yourseif? Are
your spiritsdull and flagging, given te fits
of melancholy ? If so, do net lay it t your
live or dyspepsia. Have you restless nights ?
Your back weak. your knees weak, and
have but little appetite, and you attribute
this to dyspepsia or liver.complwint ?
