On Sunday night last, heavy thunder gusts passed Rou us, but brought wor rain for us. On Mon; day evening, following, however, we were more fortunate, several gusts arose and passed over the valley, with heavy showers of rain, xecompanied by the most yivid, lightoing. and terrific thunder, during which a flash of light. ning struck a shock of rye, in Mr. Lingle's field, near this place, which was entirely consumed, ~ This shower came in the nick of time for corn and potatoes, : Wednesday afternoon more rain. trie Tie SrorM.—Our esteemed friend, J. C. Sebastian M usser, and the other to Elias Wert, near Penns creek Mills, a third cow was knocked down by lighting, also in the field, but, besides being stunned, received no further injury. Mr. W. informs us that this fallow came to him, and after cracking up his fork and the “big thing in it,” proposed that he shoull t ke the agency for Haines, Miles and Penn, which position he should hold as sole ‘pd | | a xdnt for FO years, and should have 85 half profit—on every fork sold. Mr. W. agreed to take the agency, ni the sharper filled up some papers— four in all=—which he sail were all one and the same agreement. O: eof these he read, or partly read, to Me. Win- kelblegk, and then remarked the others were dike it, and preented them to Mr. 'W. for his sienature. Our friend Winkelbleck, being rn honest old farmer, thought Lebanon county was honest like himself, and signed without readivg what was over his nam, and not many days th reafter he received notice to pay. a 1k 3300 on a note to which his'name hind been signed, which was the first intimation he had of signing a document which he little dreamed mulcted him to the tune of 8300 and for which he has not one cent of value. The note’ having gone into second hands, Mr. W. on last Wednesday paid the $300 in bank. We hope this Lebanon county sharper will be caught up, and that a long term in states prison be his sentence, ag we.are told he has played the same game upon other parties. dia By the following item it will be seen that opr friend Jacob M. Hearing this he gave himself up to the authorities and demanded an investigation. Ac- cordingly, coroner Miller was sum- moned, who took with him Dr. T. H.. Van Valzah, and the body of the de- ceased wife wasexhumed, and a post mortem examination made. Dr. V, also removed the stomach from the body, and conveyed it to the labora- tory of Prof. Rogers, in Philadelpha, in order to have its contents analyzed, with a view to discovering whether or not they contained poison. Thus far, therefore, there is not a patiicle of bos firnony against tox, beyond the on ne Shin ob - mongers might invent against any man whose habits are not strictly moral.
