Little Feet. ‘n castle halls, or cottage homes Wherever guileless childhood roams, 0), there is nothing half so sweet \s busy tread of little feet. I'he sighing breeze, the ocean’s roar, The purling rill, the organ’s power, All stir the soul, but none so deep As tiny tread of little feet. When forth we go at early morn, To meet the world and heave its scorn, Adown the garden walk so neat, We see the prints of little feet. Ateve, when homeward we repair, With aching limbs and brow of care, The voices ring out clear and sweet— Then comes the rush of little feet. The knives are lost, the dishes stray, The tools are spirited away, And when we go the lost to seek, We take the trail of little feet. But when the angel death hath come And called the flow’rets from our home, Oppressive silence reigns complete ; We miss the sound of little feet. Then tools are safe, no dishes stray, No doors go slamming all the day; Bat O, ’twould give us pleasure sweet, To hear again those noisy feet. Soft night hath come; all are asleep. Yes, all but me. 1 vigil keep. Hush! hush! my heart, and cease to beat. Was that the step of little feet? Yes, mother, ‘tis the softened tread Of him you miss and mourn as dead, And often in yonr sweetest sleep, You'll dream of hearing little feet. And when this pilgrimage is' o'er, And you approach that blissful shore, The Arse to run your soul to greet, Will be your darling’s little feet. Ay pr J the Reporter. Agricultural College, March 19. The new Spring Creek Presbyterian church, which was about two thirds built, is being torn down and will be removed down to the end of Nittany mountain to satisfy a few Grant christians, because they own farms near the new town at the end of Nittany Mountain. Agricultural College, March 28.— It being a very disagreeable morning and having a few leisureggninutes, I thought I would try to entertain you and the readers of the Reporter for a short time. Times are hard and mon- ey exceedingly scarce as I suppose it is elsewhere. Wheat looks ver poor in Harris township this spring, but in our travels of last weck we noticed that theground at the end of Nittany moun- tain, for a town, has a favorable ap- pearance for several new houses this spring, viz.: the new Presbyterian church, Messrs. John I. Thompson & Co. will put up a fine new dwelling house and bank as soon as the weather will permit, also J. H. Hahn & Co in- tend erecting a fine dwelling house and a large store room. Mr. Nelson Williams and several others intend to go on with their houses as sobn as spring opens. Prices of lots $150 per } acre. Good radical times—wheat worth 93 cents per bushel and land $600 per acre! Go in Moses, you willbe a rich man yet, if you donot get ‘rich 'we all know it is not your fault. The prospects are better this season for the Farm School than it has been for some tine; we have about fifty students at present and expect a good many more. I almost forgot to tell you about the fire we had in Buffalo run valley, 1 mileabove Fillmore. A house belonging to Mr. T. Rumbarger burned to the ground with all the con- tents, except the bureau. Mr. Rum- barger was away teaching school. The fire originated from the stove pipe. AN Yours truly, NY H. RavExswoob. In the case of the Jersey Shore, Pine Creek and Buffalo railroad, the bonds substituted for those taken out of the sinking fund, are to be a first mortgage on the road, and in the other caces a second mortgage, with the first mortgage limited to sixtean thousand dollars per mile. It is stip- ulated that the road shall be comple- years, and that the payment of the in- terest, at five per cent. per annum, up to the time of the completion of the roads, shall be guaranteed by the Pennsylvania, Northern Central or Reading railroad company, It is claimed that by the construc- tion of these roads some of the richest natural resources of Pennsylvania will be developed, and that avenues of traffic will be opened that will add Nenmensely to the wealth and prosper- Gly of the State. By the Jeresy Shore, Pine Creek and Buffalo line a commu- nication will be opened with the im- portant lake port of Buffalo and Phil- adelphia some eighty miles shorter than any existing route. Just THE DirFERENCE.—Roger B. Taney was U. 8S. Chief Justice for 25 years. He entered upon the duties of the office a poor man, and died leaving his family of daughters literally with- out a penny. Two of them are clerks, and thus earn a livelihood. Mr. Stan- ton left a wife and son in full health, a life insurance of $75,000, to say nothing of $100,000 raised by private subscription. Radical newspapers with all their clamor for economy, support a gift of $6,000 for the Stanton family. Had it been Tany’s poor daughters in- stead of Stanton’s well-off family, they would have “died first,” and such is the difference between Racical preaching and practice.
