The Bogus Count—He Marries

[From the Trenton (N J.) Gazette.)
Some time since A Wshionable and hand-
fom stranger. who represented himself
as & Prussian count sud a relative of the
ttatesman Bismarck, domiciled himself in
Elizabeth, and in a shorttime his egoellent
address, agreeable presence, and princely
stele of living secured him admission to
the most fashionable circles and caused
quite an emulation among the wealthy
belles of Elizabeth to cultivate hisacquain-
tsnea. A young lady of one of the best
families of that city conceived a desperate
love for the Count,” which be cordially
reciprocated, and finally a marriage ensued.
The full-blown bridegroom took up his
temporary abode with the family of the
bride, bat only, ostensibly, while pre-
paring to return to Europe with his fair
young prize. The bride's relative, wereso
ecstatic at her marriage with a nobleman,
and so pleased with his appearance, and dis-
position, and accomplishments that they
would not allow him to be under any
personal expense so long as he remained
with «hem. ‘The appointed day for the
departure on the bridal tour had almost
arrived, when the ‘‘Count” returned from,
New York, affecting much dejection to
his wife in not receiving his usual remit
tance from the Continent. The confiding
wife supplied his present nedds by letting
him have $2000; but, initead of devoung
it t0 making final preparations for the
voyage, he bade a long adiew to Blizabeib

exit became known, a ‘great flutter was

themselves upon their prowess and
ability to cope with Southern soldiers,
to make a note of this fuct. - Here is 4

It is a fact easily demonstrted says the
Chicago Times, that the ocarpet-baggers
engaged in selling cadetships have less
brains than Grant. They soid appoint.
ments, and gave the mony for patisan and
charitable purposes. When Grant sells
appointments, he keeps the monoy himself.
It is well for Grant's reputation that his
| superigrity over the average ca: pei-bagger
should be established in, at least, one re-
spect. He sells an appointment for a house
and Whittemore is turned out of tha House
forselling one. + That is the difference.
