NEGRO SUFFRAGE.
Now that the election is over, and
there is no danger of damaging the
Radical cause before the people, seve-
aside all disguise an come out boldly
in favor of enfranchising the negro in
all of the States.
Forney, in his Press of yesterday
morning, speaks thus plainly:
“Common justice, common humani-

now to enfranchise with the ballot the
colored man in every State. It can be
done safely and successfully. We

Thomas XK. Beecher, broth
Brooklyn one, and assistant editor of
the Elmira Advertiser, is out in a se-
ries of articles leveled against Radi-
cal leaders, (though heis him:eif a
Radical), and gets in the following
good one on Henry Ward: “It is re-
ported and widely believed that you
are an ale drinker and wine bibber;
that you are a billiard player, a card
player and the proprietor of a ten pin
alley ; that you are a profane swearer,
a trifler, a mocker, and a stumbling
block, generally in the way of Christ-
ian religion,” and wants him to state
whether the reports are true or not.

Tre GreciaN BEND.—Our readers
have heard much about the Grecian
bend that the subject is preity well
worn out. We give the publican idea
what this style is like. We take from
an exchange the following explana-
tion:
The “panier” is worn at the top of
the hoop, and around and upon it are
athered five or six yards of material.
orming what is called “blanchisseuse,”
or washerwoman style. A band encir-
cles the wearers hips, just below this
monstrous hump, and the dress below
falls straight to the feet. To relieve
this straightness and give affect to the
hump aforesaid, the belles assume what
ta called the Grecian bend. This is per-
tormed by pulling the lower hips up
fo a point even with the lower ribs,
Irawing the stomach in and’ throwing
the sheulders forward with the hands
dropping from the upraised elbows,
dike the paws of a dancing bear, or to
use a polite simile, like the Shaking
Quaker on a dance. When the whole
affair if carried out in a dance by a
gay and luxurant youth, with his hair
pa:ted in the middle, placing his right
arm under left of the lady, with fingers
extended as in a spasm between the
shoulder blades, while with the thumb
and second finger of the other hand he
holds her wrist, leaving the hand to
hang lifelessly pendent, we have an ex-
hibition of snobbishness and cockney-
ism which must put all sensible Ame -
icans to the blush.
