ago, charged with burglary. The prowcutor, Mr.
Herman, whose store, to Duquesne Borough had
been robbed, identified a white man who had been
seen lurking about the home, but swore that he
thought a colored man, who had been along with
him, was of a darker complexion than the prsoner.
His honor, Judge McClure, in sin charge to the
jury, stated that It was a well known tact, though
one greatly to be lamented, that the complexion of
white men were soon blanched in jail, owing to
the defective ventilation, and even colored men
become leas black Tho prisoner was found

Cannot some ctuange be made in the ventilation

being searched, nothing was found upon him. On
enquiry, it was ascertained that the prisoner had en

been examined a short timo before, on a charge of
having been concerned in stealing twelve hundred

This was an acto.o (or the tecoccry of dama

Pittsburgh on the 400 and 2lst of this mooch, Nov
ISSO, before Hon. R. C. Grier, Justice of the Su

toot Court of the Coiled Stales. The plaintiff
proved the mating of five or six Sand Rollers,
made by letting the metal into tho mould by • alm

ence of the neck et the mould. Ile also proved
the manufacture ut about 135.000 lbs. of Rollers
made upon the plan of itte patent of Jolla C. Par
ry, one of the defendants. This patent describes
a mode of giving a rotary motion to the iron alter
it reaches toe neck of the mould, by means of •
paddle at the end of a perpendicular rod of
wrought iron, passing up through ahead!, and the
mould of the upper neck and coupling, mid hay

the whole Caution, until the fans reach nearly to
the lower end of the lower neck, and projecting

is turned on 111 own centre by means of geared

The quanta:o chiefly urged by Mr. Dunlop,
the decedents' adveieste, were, thnt sato the sand
rolls, there was no proof of the use or sale of them
by defendants, and that they had been ran by a
loosen tical gate, without the knowledge, and
against the orders of the defendant, and that
■ stogie gate, although tangeutical to the etr•
cum ferenco of the mould, wu not nu ioftiogemea t
of Harley'. patent. Also, that the casting of chill
ed Rollers upon the plea of Mr. Parry, as above
described, is no infringement of Hatley's patent,
as it does not profess to produce a rotary motion of
the metal, by metes of Os own gravity, In curving
