The Yellow Creek Netriter and LogueVs
This truly eloquent speech, in which the guilt
of the murders near Yellow Creek la charged upon
ColotielOresap, has given to that OCCUITCD,Cei
prominence In ma history beyond that °fun oth
er of similar character. The writer of this article
became early satiated that great injustice was
done to *brave man and a patriet, lin that admira
ble production. whether It was really the work of
Logan or some other person, and he was led by a
desire to exculpate one who, In that cue al lent,
was innocent, to collect what evidence he could
fur that purpose.
In course of his inquiries, he ascertained some
two yews ago that them was living In Ohio, a few
ogles below Yellow Creek, a certain Michael
Myers, the very man who abed the first blood
which led to the killing of the Indians near Yel
low Creek.
Ho then determined to embrace some early op
portunity to obtain Myent statement from himself,
although bin informant, Mr. Bloan,,s respectable
and intelligent gentleman, ■nd:neighbor of Myers,
had often heard ids story and repeated it to the
writer.
On the 21st of February lout, the writer called
on Mr. Myer► in company with bin neighbor, Mr.
Sloan. .•
Ho - found him natant, vigorous old man—his
memory seemed good, exoept in the recollection
of names, many of which he hod forgotten. He
did not remember the names °remelt, or Chute ,
or Sappington, or Connelly, or Lord Dnomore,:el
thongh be had descended the river as ar as Greve
Creek, when that nobleman led the expedition to
the Scioto, iu 1774. -
' ' '
The writer, alter stating the object of his visit,
asked Myers how old he was. • He replied one
himoired and two wik, who is an ac
tive womb, interposed and said his age was
ninety seven, and Mr. Sloan remarked that from
data furtuatted him many years ago, by Mr. Myers,
he had supposed that he mambo about the age
his wife made him. Thla condo:don is rather eor
robatcd by subsequent remark of Myers, that he
was a man grown, when the affair at Yellow
Creek happened.
His account of that affair was as-follows:
In the month of May, 1773, tie went gems the
Ohio, Dear Yellow Creek to company with two
other men to lock at the country. They went up
the creek two or three talks:to:a spring, •t a place
now known as the Hollow Rock, where they eon-
chided to encamp that night. Having 'paneled
their hone, they turned him lane around the point
ofthe hill when there was good grazing. and be.
gan Merlins a tire. Soon after they heard their
horse's bell tinkling as though he wail moaving
rapidily. Myers, then, suspected that a wolf had
scared the horse, and taking up his rifle he ran
round the point of the hill until he saw the horse
standing !till and an Indian stooping down beside
him, trying to loosen the spaneels. Myers inime
&Maly raised his gun and shot the Indian, and as
soon uhe had loaded main, ha ran up the side
of the hill until he discovered a lugionumber of
Indians encamped, and one with a gun running
t owards him, but looking towards the hire.
He immediately fired at the amnia Indian, and
wiMotit knowing whether he had killed him or
not, he (Nye* wheeled about and ran towards
the redo , ind camp, when he Sound that the DM.
er man had oeoeme alarmed and lel before hire.

Indiana, the crreuing before; brat:kw House, who
appears to have befin the 11116 Cf epvit, ordered
the men not to tell, aid the Indiana returned to
their encampment.
That afternoon or the next morning, a large
canoe fall of Indians we. discovered awning the
river, the white men immediately mined their rid
Bea and ran down to a point, when the canoe
would be likely to land, and lying concealed ono
til it eerie guile close, fired and killed every per.
eon in the canoe bat one.
Here the writer tenni/ad whether there were
any women killed.
Anewer,.l cannot tell, they Were altogether in
the canoe."
Sack is Myers' narrative, and I have thought ft
worth preservation: otits iruth every one can
judge Sir himself. Mr. Sloan has known Myers
Gm about twenty your, and bat heard his state
ment, again and again, without vination, and his
version of Myers' narrative agrees precisely with
that of Myers himself to ths writer.

Bid Bancombe has spoken to reply to Venable
also, who, your renders will remember, proposed
to bury hie 70,000 constituents in one common

dines the honor, and instead thereof, requests Mr.
Venable rather to bury himself in obscurity. In
shop, Buncombe county, North Carolina, has held
a decided free soil meeting, respectfully postpones
self-immolation, and declines dinnion,or any more

So, alter all, there is some prospect of Non h and
South sticking together, Let us only hope that
NCr. Foote will not pass through North Carolina
on his way homeward, for It may be that he will
feel inclined to make a rather officious tender of
his official !services. I suspect the sholihonlsts
will be found rather too numerous to submit to
