Senile—The Venaoatslivery resolution! came
i np for consideration.
Ur. Phelps made s moderate asd well timed
speech, in .defence cf the reeoietioo*.
On motion, the motion of Mr. Boiler, relative to
the capture cf fugitive slaves, was made the order
of the day for to rnerrow.
The Senate then adjourned.
Houae—After considerable debate, tho renolo*
lion, allowing ninety days to collect the testimony
relative to the contested seat of Mr. Thompson, of
lowa, was adorned.
The House then took up the President’s terri
torial Message!
Mr. Seddonlbad looked into the documents ac%
eomptnying the message, and felt boond to say,
that there ww no truth io the remsrk of the Prest
dent that the adrainirtmtion had not interfered in
the affairs of California. He read extracts, prov
ing that the President advised tho formation of a
State Government in-California, and usurped the
legislative which now places Congress
under serioim embarrassment.
The President was evidently no constitutional
lawyer, bnt a brave sold ler—and had been deceiv
ed by his cabinet.
Jtr. Foote moved to refjr the subject to the
Committee of the Whole, pending which motion
the Senate adjourned.

Thursday Moruing, Jan-24, IsM). S
The weather continues unusually mild for the season
ssd at the present writing, there are strong indication*
>f rain.
Basinets, during yesterday, was generally quiet,
throughout the market, and every thing remained as
per previous days quotations.
The river during yesterday, was falling slowly, with
aome 15 feet water ia channel, end no floating ice.—
Several of the boats composing the Cincinnati packet
line, alter a short detention, hare commenced ruuning
again, and we presame they will soon all be in regular
operation.

hixlt- They aro given by iue Lafayette Joomal. of the
14th inn., which states that nearly all. tbe particulars
were "gathered from the most reliable sources " If cor
rect they show a large increase tn the amount o( pork
packed in the Wabash Valley this season, a* com
pared witli last.
' The Hamilton Intelligencer says that the fieureagiv
en for that place this season, must be set against 22,000
head for last season. This shows the large falling oil
of 17,000.
A note from New Lisbon, Colambiana county, to tbe
Cincinnati Pnee Current, rays: "Tbe number of begs
paeked in this county, this season, was B.IGO head,
weighing I .<*32,000 pounds, Mai"*'. 7,960 head list seas
on, which weighed 1,939,000 Eu. You perceive ths
number of hogs J# greater this season than lost, yet
there is a deficiency in the weight,of StO.UXJ lbs n
Aggregate deficiencies hare been summed up,at seven
or eight places, of aboft 60,000 head, but they rest more
upou estimates than actual returns, and therefore,
should not be too strongly retied on.
Seva.—-The steamer Yorktown reports the loss of
the Chas. Carroll, bound from Nashville to New Or
leantvin tbe Cumberland river. She sunk to her bur'
nesue deefc. The following despatch to the Nashville
Union, gives some of the particulars of the disaster:
EstmTLU, Jam 15.
The steamboat Charles Carroll, heavily loaded, while
rounding to a mile below IHlman’s iron works and
mue miles above this plaee, at 3 o’clock this morning,
struck a stump clo*e.tn shore, and immediately sunk in
111 feet water! She has since swung round into deep
wa.er. The furniture, books, papers, and money were
saved, and the passengers taken off by tho Josephine,
and earned to Sfflltbland.

DOCTOR WlfiTAB’S
BALSAM OF WILD CHERRY.
THE following article we copy with pleasure from
the “Boston Mercantile Journal,” of .March, 1813,
and we hope that if any of our reader* are suffering
from any of the complaints whieh it Is said to care,
they will speedily avail themselves of it:
DR. W 1 STAR’S BALAAM OF WILD CHERRY.
It to well known many yean ago thet the wild
cherry bark tree of this climate posseaed valuable
medieinai qualities. Indeed this fact was known to
the aborigines, and decoctions of the leaves or bark of
this tree has ever been regarded by their physicians as
one of the most effectual remedies in many diseases.
This fact, several yean stace, arrested the attention of
Dr. Wistar, a highly respectable practitioner of Vir
ginia. lie investigated with care the healing proper
ties of the wild cherry—tested its effects when admin
istered alone, and when in combination with other re
medial events. Ue found that its natsral virtue might
be greatly improved, and by combining it with ingre
dients whose properties were all well proved and gen
erally recognized, a medicine was predated which
constitutes a remedy of great importance In pulmona
ry affections and dis ises of the chest and throat
diseases which are proverblaiif-prervaleatmour cities
and large towns, and often prove fatal, swelling tha
bill of mortality to a much greater extent than is the
case with most others, we had almost said all olssscs
of disease.
The genuine Wistar 1 ! P J,T,,ra of Wild Cherry has a
fae simile of the signature of Henry Wistar, U.
Philadelphia, and Sandford and Park on a finely exe
cuted steel engraved wrapper. None other are gen;
We arc just in receipt of the following voluntary tri
bute to the curative power of Wisiar’s Balsam of Wild
Cherry, from E. Hall, H. D., of ML Clemens, Michi
gan, who is a physician of high standing, and an ex
tensive druggist:
Mr. Curao, Mich, Oct afth. 1649.
To the afflicted, this may certify that Mrs. B. Rob
erts, of this village, three or four weeks after confine
ment was attacked with a violent cough andgreat
prostration, and seemed hastening to the grave with
fearful rapidity. 1 advised her to use Wisuir’s Balsam
of Wild Cherry—she did so, and with that valuable
medicine alone was restored to health, and-is now a
living proof of the value of Wiitar’s Bslsstn of Wild
Cherry. R HALL,
Physician and Druggist
Read on and bo convinced still further of the remar
kable virtues of Wlstnr’s Balsam of Wild Cherry:
Messrs. Sandford A Park] Gents. As a matter of jus
tice to you, and far the benefit of the public, I. would
offer the following statement of a cure effected by you?
medicine, known as Wixtar’s Balsam of Wild Cherry.
In the spring of 1647 my wife was severely attacked
with Peripneumonia, or Pleurisy, which resulted la a
deep seated pain in the side, accompanied with a se
vere cough; she was attended by aome of the best
physician* in Chicago, bat to no purpose; for weeka
ahe auffcrcd, without relief, coughing fncesaantlynight
and day. I came to the conclusion that all the reme
dies uuowntlo the physicians could not help iter, and
wss induced to try your Wild Cheery. I procured one
bottle, and commenced uaing it according to direc
tions; before it was all gono-tho cough stopped, the
jn her aide left her, and with the aid of another
bottle the was restored to raster siil.tb. In con
sideration of these circumstances, 1 would recommend
it to the public as a valuable medicine.
Yours, 'letpes'fuUy, R.N.GARHATT.
Gians Ravins, Miefau, Oct. 8,1649.

Of all the cures that have been recorded, there are
certainly equal to tha one first mentioned, which
plainly show* the curability of Const mption, cfea lx

J D. Parti Dear Sir, Aa I have a deep ©cmmlsera
tiou for the afflicted, permit mo ta give you a brief
history of my afflictions, and the benefits derived from
the use of Dr. Wisiar’s Balsam of Wild Cherry.
In July. 1644, 1 was attacked with a (ever of the* ty
phod character, 'which left me in a very debilitated
state, when in tne following winter 1 was taken with a
severe cold, which reduced me to sach an extent aa t»
give me the appearance of a confirmed consumption
-1 labored under a severe cough—expectorated a great
deal, and was troubled with cold feet and night sweats.
1 also frequently raised blood from my tunas. I con
tinued in this state, gradually making under the dis
ease, until January, 1647,. when I .was again attacked
with fever. My friends despaired of my lift, and my
physteiins thought 1 could surrito bat a short time.
My extremities, especially my foot, were eonsmtnly
cold, and almost lost their feeling. Under cir
cumstances it may truly be said that! was a Irving
skeleton. I finally determined to quit taking medicine
prescribed by physicians, and try Dr. Wl«lit>i H»lnm
of Wild Cherry, and from the first week that I com
menced taking can date a gradual recovery. 1
continued its use.stx months, at the end of whieh.time
I was cured, and have enjoyed good health ever since,
and cheerful? recommend the to all those af
flicted with disease of the lungs, and would say to
those commencing its use, net to be discouraged if two
or three bottles do not effect a care; but persevere as I
have done, and I have ho doubt but nine eases out of
ten will l>e blamed with renewed health as l eave
been. Respectfully, yours, • J .„ J|J . L% ,
