Indeed this fact was known to thr aborigines, and decoctions of the loaves or bark of UU» tree has ever been regarded by their physicians as oiie ef thie most eflootnal remedies in many diseases. Ttus fact, several yean since, arrested iho attention of Dr. Wisiar, a highly respectable practitioner of Vir ginia. lie investigated with care the healing proper* u<-» of the wild cherry—tested its effects when admin- tsterrd alone, and when tn combination with other re medial arem*. He found that its natural virtue might be greatly improved, and by combining it with ingre dient* whose properties were all well proved and gen erally reeoguiied, a medicine was produced which commute* a remedy oi great importance in pulmona ry affections and dis ase* of Uto chest and throat— diseases which are proverbially prevalent in our cities and large towns, and often prove fatal, swelling tho bill of mortality to a much greater extent than is the case with most others, wo had almost said all classes of disease.
