We took a 'pilau, ytSterday, through the upper
portion of the Eighth Ward, and were delighted
to observe that it is improving with as much te
pidity, to say the least of it, as any other Ward in
the city. New homes are going up on all aides,
and what, three year. ago, was a bleak hill side
with halt a dotal scattered houses upon it, is now
part of the city, and inhabited by a numerous and
thriving popolstion. Some idea of the increase
may be formed from the fact that in 1648 the num ,
tier of taxable inhabitants in the whole Ward
amounted to four hundred and fifty eight, while
now there are eight hundred and KORtril taxable.
