should prepare to keep himself well posted up in
the proceedings of the in-ooming session of Con•
gross, u it may, and doubtless will, have a very
permanent induence upon the future welfare and
pomposity of the country.

in rasing sentence upon soma rioters, to make
violent attack upon Governor Johnston tar an al.
leged abuse of the pardoning power. His !im
pinge was violent, Indecorous, and peculiarly un
just,. and shows him peculiarly unfitted for the
high place he occupies. This attack his led to an
investigation of the number of pardons which took
place under the Administrations of Governor Pol
ley, Shrank, and Johnston, by which it appears, that

through Charleston, and was communicated to the
