LOCAL MATTER& aChnTILD VOH tat PITTIBITIGIZ DaILT GIZ2TTZ Trip to the Country, No. A The National &Dad from Brownville to Union. town is kept in very good order, and passes through a fine, fertile country. Uniontown is a charming little place, and the great number of stages which pan through it every day relieves it from that monotony:so unpleasant in most country towns. It is delightfully situated in a valley surrounded by bills, and is about twelve miles from the Mo nongahela and eleven from the Youghiogheny.— The Court House of Fayette County is a neat, unpretending structure of brick, (we are sorry that we cannot say so much for the gaol,) and there is a very good alms house Just outside the town. Uniontown, likewise, commas several churches, maitufactoties, and hotels, one of which kept by Mr. A. Stone, is well worthy the attenuoo of travallers. A rapid ride of about fifteen mile. brought as to Perryopolis, a pleasant little town, rapidly in creasing in importance. It contain. the glees works of. Mears. Herron and \Valves, together with taw mills, tan yards, and other indications of business. This town is Interesting in another particular, since the country (or savant miles around it, formerly belonged to General Washing ton, who had a house built here, when all around was a forest, and is said to have superintended the erection of Oar of the saw mills. The name of this great and good man has been given to several of his favorite resorts in this vicinity. Before returning home, we paid a short visit to Fayette Springs, about eight miles from Union twit, and found it crowded with viaitere, about eighty of whom were Pittsburghers, who appear. ed to spend their time very pleasantly. The manufacture of window glass, in particular, is carried on in the valley of the Monongahela to an extent of which few of our readers have any idea, and is a source of wealth both to the manu facturer, and the surrounding termer. We may take, axone out of many, the establishment of Mr. It, Smith of Elizabeth, which turns out about seven thousand boxes of gnus, Worth four dollars per box, every ten mouths. The country along the Monongahela, taken as a whole, is one of the most beautiful and fertile valleys in Pennsylvania, in habited by an honest, energetic, mod wealthy popu lation. Rxcmvnco firm.. Goons.—A man named Dil lon, who keeps an old iron store in Fifth streets was arreated yesterday, on a charge of receiving stolen goods. A large quantity of copper, which is supposed to hove been Stolen, was found in his possession, as well as a number of tools for the manufacture of saddle trees, which have been identified as being the property of Mr. Geo. For tune. Mr. F.'s workmen have not been making any saddle trees for about a week back, and on going yesterday manning to commence their work, found all the tools gone. Dillon was committed. TIFFUNO Roust—Frederick Bergen, and a man named were arrested, and taken to the Mayor'. °aloe, on Tuesday, chewed with keeping tippling houses—Abe one on Wood street, the other in St. Clair. Both gave bail far their appearance at the next Court of Quarter Sessions. A5.1.1:1-T AND BILTTEIY.—Thomas nadh was yesterday takes to the Mayor's Office, charged with committing as outrageous assault and battery upon his wife. He beat her in a shocking manner, and almost choked her to death. The prieoner, who tea man of herculean proportions, made a desperate resistance, and it needed the utmost ex ertions of three policemen to master him. One of the police, in the struggle, had his arm very badly bitten.
