plane of two hundred. People Who Went there to
escape, now hasten away panic struck. At the
east, we hear of no attacks of the disease, and
the salubrious breezes of the sea shore of New
Engliihd will no doubt, as in pesos gone by. stay
the pestilence.
The arrtval of the Crescent City has put a deal
of enthusiasm into the gold hunters. She has full
a million and a halite the possession of the pas

Mayor Woodhull's liquor crusade resulted very
favorably on Sunday, and the rum shops,. a gen
seal thing, were closed, as well as various other
places of business. , All the newspaper offices
but two, the Herald and Express, were closed un.
til evening, and the !oatenn deprived clan old lux
ury, that of reading the Bulletin. The Tribune,
Courier, Journal of Commerce, and San, have
long ago closed their offices on the Sabbath, and
the good custom,it is to be hoped, will mon be uni
versally adopted.
Father Matthew has not arrived, and the good
people who mean to welcome boa, will set to
blows if he delays much longer. The Common
Council, with questionable propriety, have made
arrangements with the Irving House to entertain
the great reformer, a proceeding which has caus

is not a temperance house, though a most excel

York City does not contain a temperance h.del lit

he could receive his friends. Nor is this anom.

will spend the first night at Staten Island, .d
will be welcomed by the whole temperance ar

Business in the city was never duller, and ex.

generally are dull m the absence of operntlrx,
who have ded the ray to avoid the beat, and to
be clear of &sense. The Sub Treasury has now
two 'millions of dollars, and the brinks ten, giving
an aggregate that is useless for any practical
good.
On 'Change, the attendance is small. Cotton is
steady, with a good bostness. In the Flour trade,
there is nothing new in demand or price.. The
sales are chiefly for export. Goal Wheat Is
