Samaut...ta Cssis—A woman named LCethari¢e
Smith appeared before the Mayor on Saturday:
and complained of a German uamed Fischer, who
had punuaded her to accompany him from Cin
cinnati, promising to many her as soon as he
reached Pittsburgh. He had, she asserted, on the
passage up, refused Inset provisions enough for
her subsistence, and would not pay her board.
atter they had come up. He was arrested, and
when brought before the Mayor, offered to many
her, hot she ref used to have him, as she had some
suspicionithat he had another wife living In New
York. He was taken to jail, but the matter will
probably be amicably arranged, as the tender dam
eel is will og to take fifty dollars, and go bank to
Cincinnati.
Aas Cu, num—A woman, who enlists had no
money, or wished to procure her marketing free
of expense, resorted to the following "rasa," on
Satni,day:
Stepping up to • cowry woman, she begin
tatting her butter, and waited till another woman
same along who bought two pounds, andlifter
Mg half a dollar, and receiving the change went
away. She then put two pounds Mtn her basket,
and vary coolly asked for her change. The man
try woman denied having received any money
from her, when she commenced raising such an
uproar, that inn few minutes: a large crowd gath
ered round them, ens they were both taken to the
police office. The affair ended in the case being
diamimed, as the Mayor had no jurisdiction over
it, and the virago; got off with the batter, the coon
try woman preferring to loose it, rather than create
any disturbance.

16th.—Before Boa. Benjamin Patton, President
Judge, and William Kerr, Associate Judge—
Young Orr, who was convicted of amen et the
last term of the above Court, wan brought up on
Saturday to receive his sentence. Judge Potion,
after making some remarks on the manner in
which Orr had been induced to commit the atro
cious crime of which he had been convicted, thro'
the Mitigation of Simms, observed that he had
hitherto felt a great dislocllnation to sentence him
u he had expected that his evidence would prove
useful In the case of one of his accomplims, who
had not been convicted, and if he were sent to the
Penitentiary, he would, of eourae, be disqualified
from bearing testimony. He then sentenced him
to pay a fine of nix and • gamier cents to the Com
monwealth, to pay the coos; of prosecution, and
be imprisoned Om Ave years in the Western Peni
tentiary.
