From tha California Emigrants
W. learn from the St. Joseph Gaseue . of the
261. b, that Mr. Gilmore, of that county, had return
ed from the Plaine, niter having traveled 140 miles.
He says that a large number of wagons were in
in advance of him, and on this return he met 11t5
wagons. Mach dusatiafaction existed among the
emigrants, owing io the great crowd of wagons
on the Plains, it being a matter of impossibility for
all to get along peacealdy. A large number of
emigrants had died with the cholera, and the dis
ease was still among theni. In one encampment
over night eight person. died. A number ot com
panies have partially broken up, a portion of the
members becoming tired of the expedition and
noxious to return to their families. Such a course,
they Sank, is juaaed by prudence and a love of
life. From what Mr Gilmore could learn on hie
return, he think. upwards of two hundred emi
grants most have died on the Plaine—rind sickness
still among them.
Mr. G. remained a few hours with the park-mule
company from:SL Joseph. A few of the members
hod been sick, and a youog mon by the ha me of
Samuel Wilson, formerly a resident if St. Joseph,
died with the cholera. Mr. Wilson has a brother
residing in Oregon, Holt county, Missouri. Mr.
Ilyaa and Andrews bad an:attack but were consid
ered out of danger. Thesis gentlemen bad purchtui•
ed a P.yht wagon, with the exptctation of ri

goal health.
The Gazelle says: "During the past teeth five
cases of cholera have terminated totally in this
place. Two brothers, Thomas and Daniel Pepper,
from Green County, Ky. , died of cholera, the one
on Sunday eveninr., and ihn other on Monday
morning. On Saturday morning au emigmnt,whoso
name we died not learn, died very arddenly—mod
on Tuesday morning, a boy 14 years of age. Oa
Wednesday morning, Mr,. A. Houston, wife of Mr.
Rated Houston, died after a few hours•sicknes.

The cholera has made us appearance among
several of the Indian tribes on the opposite side of
the river, and a large number have died. It is said
to be raging to an alarming extent among some of
