market is firm, and considerable is doing. The

inigible. for Yellow. Rye la in moderate demand,

Provisions--There is very little movement itt
the market, with Bake of Mess Pork at "Loa

Lard is rather inactive, with moderate sales

Syrrinarm.—Pnrannat to previous notice, this
meeting, held in the room of the Court of Quarter
Sessions, in the new Court House, yesterday af
ternoon, was organized by calling his honor, May
or Herron, to the chair, and appointins John An
derson, Esq , and Mayor Rush, of Allegheny, Vies
Presidents. Messrs. Vonnbonhorst and S.W. Black
were elected Secretaries.
The call for the meeting was read by Mr Vona
bonborst.
On motion of Col, Black, a committee was ap.
pointed to draft resolutions, expresarre of the feel
up of this meeting' concerning the late terrible
calamity which has overtaken St. Loin I. The
chair appointed on Li. committee, Meson. S. W.
Black, R. H. Kerr, F. Kay, J. K. Moorehead,
and Mr. Heonedv, who retired to droll their re
port.
During their absence, the Rev. Mr. Teesdale
rose and observed thnt, na there appeared to be a
ceviabon.of buainess at that moment, he begged
leave to say that he Came to this meeting espect
mg to rxe it great deal of interest rnamtested on
this unpoimot subject.
He had paid a vat, a short time ago, to that
oily, Louis and, having travelled all over the
burnt pnrtion, he was the batter able to judge of
the extent of the calamity which had befallen it.—
He had expected that it would excite the liveliest
feelings in the breasts 01 our citizens. the more

the direful effects of a cmilar calamity. He wee
most of till surprised at seeing so iew of a certain
class here. Hn hail long acquiesced in the decis
ion of public sentiment, which left the manage
ment of political affairs to lawyers and other simi
lar public characters, but he must confess that lie
was of opinion that ell classes should ;on in the
works of charity and benevolence, nod he wag
somewhat surprised that ha was the only clergy
man present. When our city wan stricken by a

Mayor Rash on Tuesday morning, and the house
of Hugh Spence, in Allegheny city, wait thorough
ly searched. Several stolen, articles were found
amongst others, part of a web of cloth, about forty
yards in, length, which had been cut out the loom
of a weaver a short time ago, together with, about
thirty yards more. Spence confessed to hawing
stolen the forty yards, but denied baying taken
more. What makes the mallets worse, I. that be
was an intimate friend of the weaver for the past
fifteen years. Spence was fhlly committed for
trial at the next Court of Quarter Sessions.

was discharged from the cuitody of the police on
Monday, they being unable to charge him with any
specific act of iniquity, though the contents of his
pockets,- a pistol, a bowie knife, a skeleton key, en

and a bunch of matches, would go to favor the
supposition that he was not, at least, as viral°us
as he might be, was arrested on Tuesday night by
officer Fitzamorris, charged with stealing boards
out of Mr. Scott's lumber yard. He was fully com

We hear that in the encounter between Mr.
Willard and Bell, in which Mr. Bell was severely
injured, Willard was mare sinned against than wa
ning Bell having, as we have heard, followed
Willard around town with a loaded gun, and die
charged one barrel of it either at Willard or his
brother. In self defence, Willard took the gun
from him, and struck him with it on the head.
