Yesterday morning, at.ten o'clock, pursuant to
adjournment Judge Irwin on the Bench. The
case of the United States vs. Timothy W. Hurd,
indicted kr uttering and passing coon terfeit coin
Was then taken up.
Alm P. filarnanuarn luorls -- liurd was a shoe
maker; he made shoes for my family, and bor
rowed some money from me; he paid me in ten
saint pieces; I was afterwards told that they were
had; one or them was taken from me by an officer
at the Mayor's Office, do not know whether the
piece produced in Court is the same; I passed the
rest of the money he gave me; 4 was with him at
a tavern when be paid a dime for a glawi of liquor,
I got money firm Hurd, which I passed Lathe same
place. This money was money he paid me kir
what he had borrowed; it was principally ten cent
pieces.
Crow eiramined—l was taken to the Mayor's
Office (or passing the money; they kept me there
tart of two days I was kept there two days before
the officers asked me any thing about Ip 1 never
knew Hurd to give me any counterfeit coin; I am
no judge of money; they swore me very hard at
the Mayor's Office. Don't know whether I was in
confinement, but 1 was locked up.
This witness seemed so weak minded as almost
to be idiotic.
Mrs. Kurds:lll , scorn-1 received some ten cent
pieces from Macnamarn I got them in the early
partof last February. These are the pieces which
I gave to the officers, and which I marked at the

Kimball's house, and she told me that she had I
counterfeit pieces of money. I advised her to say
nothing about it. One evening she saw Muamm

He was then going to Hurd's house. I then arrest

marked it. We got a search warrant out, and went
toHurd's house. Vis found a dime under the bench
at which he worked—a crucible hid in the ashes;
we also found some of the metal. Here is a piece
of it, (a half of a cormterteit dime was here shown
to the jury.

is the one which I found in Hurd's house. I found
the dime in his shoe eh 3p. lam a police officer.

FOUND linownro.—Dunng the recent heavy
freshet in the Allegheny, some fishermen discover
ed a keel boat full of water, and sunk to the roof,

and towing it to shore made it Lott a little above
Hare's Island. When the water fell, it left the
boat only partially filled, God a natural culkisity
prompted the fishermen to look into a. Their
horror may be imagined, at seeing the corpse of a
young and handsome woman, with a lithe child

The steamer Hindoo arrived yesterday from St
Louis. The clerk alarmed us that at one time
every parson on board the host, taissengen and
mew, except the mate, were attacked by a violent
diarrhea. By the application of timely temeeits it
was checked in every instance. Great praise is
due to the steward of the Hindoo, who although
very ill at the lime, Intended to the wants of tie
