uayrarraoled interference with the duties ol the
Coroner’s Jury, bat as it appears that many facts
may be elicited by tho Committee which wonld
not property come before the Jury, and it is highly
desired that all the knowledge that can be derived
from such unfortnnnlc occurrences should be ren

recurrence of similar accidents. I mist that Ishall
.be excused by my fellow ettixens lor the exercise
ol an authority that may appear at first sight as un
warranted.

With tbe usual privileges of filling vacancies,
and of adding to their number, if they deem it ex

quest the said Committee to meet on the premises
where the unfortunate accident occurred, at 3

A Shrewd Reply. — A young friend of ours was
Undergoing an examination for admission to
the bar. Judge S bad published fcisqdestion
pretty closely, bnt the candidate was never at limit.
Finally, the Judge pounced upon him as follow* ,
‘‘Suppose ihntn Boston dry goods importer *hould
come fo you with n case like ibis '—and here the
Judge went on to state one ot the most '•duplicated
questions that om<* in regard lo marine insurance.
It was a poser. Our friend, intending lo practice
in the country, was not “posted up” on this topic.
But be was a Yankee, and he never was at a loss
for an answer. So soon as the Judge had summed
up his Cose, and closed on with the inquiry, “What
would foa aayT our friend promptly replied “1
should tell him to ait down Sir, until I could look
at my book*:” “The bent thing you could do —the
very thing vou ought to do,’’ rejoined the Judge
“you are a admitted. Sir.”
