Mr. Foote explained the encounter with Sena
tor Cameron. ' He admitted that slight blown had
been exchanged, and regretted that the dignity of

tabliehing a new Republic. Some skirmishes had
taken plant, in .which several of the Government
troops bad fallen victims.
Natchez, March 6,1M9.
The steamer Convoy was destroyed -by fire,
osar this city. Two persons were drowned aDd
3000 bales of cotton burned.

Grain—There is a good inquiry for Wheat for
milling purposes. There is less doing in C<irn, and
the market baa a downward tendency We note
tales of prime white at 55c* yellow at 3Sc.
Pro visions are without change.
Groceries —No sales are'reported.
Tobacco—Sales of Maryland Leaf at 3i cents
to 41 cts.
Cotton-No changed prices.
Money Market—Sales of Treasury Notes at
Uo<. Sales of Ohio Trust at 85.
