THE CORN TRADE OK EUROPE
Tbe immediate effect of the introduction of free
trade was to give a temporary impetus to the pram

*if every class, ftom the large miller to the small

j/br the liberation ol the bonded corn, and could no

demand was consequently created, and lor a short

led the sanguine to prognosticate a maternal rise.
In this view we did not and do not agree.

The withdrawal ol nil out a nominal duty must
have the effect .-f drawing supplies to this countrv,
and we regard the future, as far as the British
farmers interest is concerned; with great distrust.
There are already appearances ol a re action, and
we question whether the slight improvement es

business. Tbe weather has lately beeu favorable
for drying the land, and bringing it m a condition
for working.
