PITTSBURGH BOARD OF TRADE
COMMITTEE FOE FEBRUARY
B. CXAIO. Vf. EAIIEX. VK. X- MURVUT.
There are still about four feet water in ebanne
by metal mark, and at a stand.
Office Pittsburgn Gazette, >
Thursday Moroinz, February 22, 1549.)
The markets yesterday were generally quiet,
and sales were coafined to the regular limited
transactions to city trade, with no important change
ia quotations. The weather was warm and clou*
dy, and thawing freely during the day. Should
the weather continue open, it must, ere long, pro
duce a rise in tbe river, which will remove the
gorges of ice now in the way of navigation, and
trade will commence again tvilb renewed ac
tivity.
FLOUR—The market maintain* iU> usual qui
etneftm and price* remain quite hrm. We qoote
the ar* -n store at s!.s► U»l, which ia the \>n-
ruling figure, with regular sales in dray load
RYE FLOUR—We further limiiei) sale*

0{ Corn Meal and Btjcfewheai Flour, the mar
ket is bare, and we can import no sales.
PROVISIONS —In the way of regular limited
sales, a fair amount i» doing, and prices generally
are unchanged from last quotations. We note
regular sales of Western cured bacon in lots o'
jiOO to 1000 ft* at, lor shonldera 4), aides s‘, and
hams at Cirs* ft. Uood city cured from Muoke

Gi>6»e p ft -Dried beef has slightly improved
aud is heid at be f ft. Small sales were reported
to as ft- For bulk pork. 3 1 fir) c are
fair quotations, but no s ales are reported to us
GROCERIES —The market is.steady but not
active. We give the following as the fair ruling
figures of the market, with moderate sales NO

7), and rice at 4i£*4 Ic. No change in other am.
CANDLEWICK—In changing' the prices of
Cotton Yarns, &c., in our last report, we should
have placed CanJWwick 1 6c ft. m*ieaJ ot 15c,
the old price.
LEAD —Pig Lead is held at 4|c. The ante
has advanced to 4c 4* ft in St. Louis.
Steamboat Accident. —On Monday night last,
says the Mobile Advertiser, the steamboat W. W'
Fry, on her upward trip, when near the juuction
of the Alabama and Tombigbee rivers, met with a
serious accident to her machinery She was run*
mug very smoothly, when'suddenly her shall wa>
broken, which disarranged the whole of her ma
chinery, breaking the piston rod and otherwise in
juring the engiue. Tlw fly-wheel was turned with
great veloci!|gp»rowmg its heavy segment through
the cabin tldtfr; destroying the diutng table and
other furniture. It luckily happened about mid
night, when no one was m the cabin, and no one
was injured.
Pork Business —A* the Pork season 1* about
over, it may not be improper to remark that the
total number of Hogs packed here has fallen a lit
tle short of 30,000. This is nearly one-third more
than was eipected at the commencement of o|>-
erolions —20,000 being the highest Duml>er that
was then calculated upon. The quality has been
unusually good and heavy. —(Telegtaph.
Nashville, Feb. H. IS4I*.
The river is in tine condition —but tailing.
Cotton —There is little doing in the market. A
fine article of CoUon has been sold for 5 30; but we
have heard cf 5,00 having been given lor a small,
but very superior lot.
Tobacco —Yesterday morning 10 hhds, the crop
of Jas. S. William*, of Wjlliamson Co , were sold
at Wm. H. Johnson'* Ware house. Broad Street,'
ranging from 2,7505,05. )
CATTLE TRAL)f oFpORTACE
The Portage County Whig gives a statement of
the Cattle trade in the irqinediale vicinity ol Ra
venna, Ohio, showing a Ufta! of 6,567 bead. Six
teen hundred head of sheep also passed through
Ravenna the past yesr. the Whig says;
“The cattle and sheep aa quoted above did not
coat leas than $200,000, which is not by any means
all that have gone trom this vicinity. Large droves
of eallle hove gone in directions, that were
bought in this and adjoining counties, of which we
have no means of obtaining particulars. uw
thooght by good judge* that no lea* than 10,000
head have been purcbase4, and kuod sale ip some
eastern or southern market. This estimate is
opto the !1 st of January, since which time not
less than 2000 bead have passed through our viU
\ e ar« credibly informed by tbcwe engaged
in the trade, that were there means of transporta
tion by Rml road on tbf route proposed by the
Cleveland and Pittsburgh Rad Road Company,
the business would be dpubled, and many that
now drive in another direction would transport
this way. This being the case, it would make*
h revenue to tke road o| not less than Sio,ooo
yearly.
