BOSTON, DEC. 6, 1646.
The Ocean Steamer Bntannia arrived at her
wharf at 10 o'clock this morning, after a botsterous
voyage of eighteen days, having sailed on the lhth
ultimo. Her news has been anxiously looked for.
and is important.
CONTINENTAL INTELLIGENCE.
The intelligence from the Coriunent is not only
important, but alarming in the highest degree.
AUSTRIA
The imbecile Emperor of Austria has charac
terized his success at Vienna by the most cold
blooded and attrocious murders upon the defence.
leas citizens, upon record. Houses have been rc.
tied, and even women and children massacred.
The students of the University, e „,h c , use 4 almost
superhuman exertions in defence of tile coy, were
hunted down hkebeests,andexecuted when cap•
lured.
This brutal conduct will raise a llama in Aug.
trip that neither King norlLEmperor will be able to
ex tiaguub
PRL. SIA
From Berlin the intelligence is also alarming.--
The King and Assembly see still at issue, and no
new Cabinet has been formed. The King reso•
lutely adheres to his resolution or excluding the
members of the chamber from the administration
and the court.
On the 9th ult., Brandenburg armed at the As
sembly with the King's decree, transferring the
Assembly's Sessions from Berbn to Brandenburg.
The Assembly decided that it would declare itself
in permanence, and should attempts be made to
dislodge them from their present place of meeting,
the President should select another place in the
city, and all resolutions adopted by it should have
the same validity as if the Assembly had not been
prorogued.
Large detachments of Burgher Guards occupied
the building to protect the members. The Presi.
dent of the Ministiy informed the Assembly that
web proceedings were illegal and null. and the
Police ordered the Burgher Guards to prevent the
.iuings of the Assembly, and allow no one to pass
except oat- The Guard refused, aa such a course
was calculated to endanger the liberties of the
people which they felt themselves bound to pro.
test.
Upon this refusal of the Guards, the chief of the
Police issued a proclamation, under the authonty
of the King, which threatened to cell out the troops
of the line, sad dissolve the Assembly immediate
ly. When this was known, the alarm was sound•
, Id, and the citizens were called to arms.
In the afternoon 15,000 infantry•, with large ars
lery, entered the city, and posted themselves
chi. ally neer the Assembly. General Wrangle, who
was at their head, sent the chief of his staff to
the flasembly oommunciate that his orders were
to ev actuate and' close the Hall.
Thi a was final!,' done, but under protest by the
Assembly.
On the 7th oh. , the King issued a proclamation
dissolving the Burgh er Guards--a state of siege
was prevented by the gathering of the clubs.
On the afternoon, the Assembly met at a private
house, and re-elected their officers, and the Burgh
er Guards resolved not to yield nor surrender
their arms. ln the mean while, the period fixed
for disarming the Guards was extended to sunset
on the 13th, when measures would be taken to
compel a compliance.
Wrangle had bin hea dqua Kers in the palace, and
the gates of the streeto leading to Shulteen were
closed, and the house where the Assembly .set was
occupied by the army. No collision occurred that
night, nor up to our Lam advice.
Rumors from Breslau, state that that place h,td
revolted, and the Palace of Count Bromic:award
had been burned to the ground.
The Common Council of Cologne seat an address
to the Berlin Assembly in which they repudiate
the King's power to dissolve the diet without coo
se:at
In Berlin all the placards were torn down by
the troops except those which were addressed to
the citizens urging them to strait the decision and
not risque the blood and property of 40,000 in.
habitants fur 15,000 ungrati tful provincialism.
