OFFICE PITTS - 131=H CrezErre, 1
Tuesday Morning, November 21, IblS.
A general quieinus prevailed in the market
yesterday, with only a regular steady business ,
and no marked change in quotations.
Business along the wharf showed an increased
activity. A large number of steamers had arri
ved since Saturday, and the amount of produce of
various kinds was larger perhaps than any pre.
vious day of the season.
FLOUR—The market if any thing is duller, and
very little is doing either from first hands or from
store. Small sales were effected at the river at
SL and from store at 4,10 4,18 f bbl. Receipts
are light.

steady but not active. Sales to a limited extent
have been effected as follows—wheat 75250 c,

The following article from the New York Ex
press, will interest some mane Stemma and dealers
in this city.
Of the City Dry Goods Market during the week
past, the reporter of to day remarks:
"A smell advance is perceptnble in some de.
script:one of good. We may particularize Cloths
of which lots have been told at 51,6 7 1, which
were freely offered at 51,621, two weeks previous
to election. We are not surprised at this, as we
were fully aware that orders had been received
from parties in Europe holding American Stocks
to sell out immediately if Cron. Cabs was elected.
Had he succeeded and these orders have been
executed we should now have been in a state
from which naught but an unpandlelled reason of
depression could reasonably have been expected.
The first class jobbers paper in our market can
now be done at 10 per cent per annum
auctioneers at 9 per cent, while second and
third clan is hard at 1215 per cent The market
is dill suffering from the over importation of
Cloths and Stuff Goods, although sortie styles
even of these articles can be found which are de
sirable, among which we may mention Blue and
Wool Black Cloths. Of the former we have no
stock in market and there is a large inquiry, while
for the Inter we can say they are quick at fair
prices. Stull Goods are plenty at a reduction of
30+ per cent on fancy styles Plain Paratuartas
are quick at remunerating prices. Long and
square Woollen Shawls are still in demand, al.
though the late arrivals have caused some reduc.
non to be made at prices.
Its domestiota trays the Reporters, exporters have
been remarkably quiet, the shipments having reach
ed but 196 bales. The arnval from Europe brings
us intelligence of a still farther decline in the price
of Cotton. This will have a corresponding effect
• upset this side, and enable our manufacturers to
purchase their raw material at less price. It is al.
so agreed among many of oar lamest manatee°.
tem to reduce the rate of wages 25 per cent. This
with the redaction of the staple will enable them
to produce at less rater than even the present
precedeetedly low prices.
' Woollens are doll except in the article of coarse
goods and Shawls, which remain is good request
The quantity of South American Wool sow lay.
ing in the various Atlantic ports is large, but dad
dedlrkrater tone is perceptible among dealers in
the domestic staple, and there appears some indi
cation of an advance.
In Prints, the trade may be said to be over, aL
though there is still something doing with jobbers
who do "near home trade." Stocks are however
accumulating, but the production of fall style will
gobu cease, and all handa be turned on to spring
goods. We have no doubt that the experience of
farmer years will admonish our printers of the ne
cessity of paying particular attention to pattern.,
as they may be sure that no pains will be spared
by the British manufacturer to produce novel de-
Wan.
