Saturday Morning, Oct. 26, 1616.
The weather yesterday was clear and delight -
fal, and business in a general way was tolerably
brisk. Many of the heavier chum steamers
are hauling into the trade, and business along the
wharf manifests an increased activity.
01,131/li—The receipts by river were not as full
as the prerrlotis day, and tildes from first hands
were hardly worth qemiag; being, so (Inc as we
could learn, only a lot of 29 bbls at 4,62. This
was a superior kit of family hour, and the figure
quoted is rather above the market. We note

THE Pacxrrs--The old Packet landing along
opposite the mouth of Wood street, begins to as
sume a business like appearance. The steamers
Idemenger, Isaac Newton, and Monongahela, the
Saturday, Sunday and Monday packets, for Gin
cinnati, were proudly moored at their usual place
of departure, while the Hibernia, New England
Na 2, Brilliant, and Clipper, are in ample trim,
awaiting their respective turns. These packets
have all, daring the summon., been thoroughly re.
'fitted and painted, and in point of splendor of ac
commodations are rarely come up to, and never
beaten. Many of the other Cincinnati, Louisville

In regard to the prices of Wool, and the muting
prospects of the Wool grower, we make the fol

extract from a Inner of Mr. Samuel Law ,

anew thoroughly acquainted with the Wod grow

deep interest to all who are engaged in this itro.

"The reasom for thegreat depression its the
woolen manufacture of this country are obvious.
A short crop of food in 1546, in Great Britain, caw
sod a famine in 1847, and a greater commercial
crisis than has been for fifty years on the other
side of the water. This courdM a very large ex
portation of manufactured gm ids to this country,
as they could not be consumed at home. Then
came the hut winter and spring the political and
financial troubles on the Continent, with similar at.
kohl on consamption and el:ports to this country .
For Lhe bud eighteen months this country has hero

have surcied severely by the great fall of goods,
prices of which were never s o low as aittna time
Our own stook of goods was so large that we stop

a thousand hands.
This kind of thing cures itself, and my belief is
firm that another year will show a greatly Mgr..
wed state of things. Whether wool will advance
in price the coming winter or lint, Is beyond my
judgement; but I have no doubt it will be higher
within a year. The supply of do menu, wool is
not above the machinery. The clip of 1547 was
entirely worked up. Do not for one moment en
tertain the Idea-of abandoning tiro business; In
stead of which make preparations togo on rooms.

shall be earned; give us the wool at German tut

' The woollen manufacturer is in a relative posi
tion to the wool grower an the miller is to the
