There is decidedly more faeility a negotiating
loan than there was last week. The paper bro
kers have no difficulty in securing first class names
and on Treasury Nines the banks are lending
more freely.
One element in Mr. Carcarat's negotiation was
overlooked in making our estimate yesterday of
the loss on the transaction. The stock sold bears
interest to Mr. Corearan's benefit until the bills
drawn against it are at maturity. Thus the inter
, est on the stock is accruing while he has the use
of the proceeds of the bills here for 75 days. This
reduces the loss to less than t per cent.
The amount of specie in the Sub• Treasury to
day is 51,400,000, exclusive of 5300,000 of special
deposit. The receipts (min the Customs average
about 540,000 per day. Coin is coming in pretty
freely from the interior, and to some extent from
abroad. Sixty thousand dollars from via the
Lakes passed through the City yesterday for the
Philadelphia mint. The next French packet will
take about 5100,000, mostly Mexican. The stea
mer from Boston yesterday did am take any on,.
