They Ent offered aS3 note of the Ag , eicultural Bank of Herkimer, N. Y., to John Green Grocer, corner of Third and Grant. He at once discovered it to be counterfeit, refused it, and the Men left the wore. Green fobowed soon after-- called at Me Mayor'. otftce, and put Scott and Barr on the track, and they pursued the Butler men to the shop of Glass Sr McNeely, where they were purchasin g a bridle, for which one of the $3 coun terfeit notes was paid. The two police officers waited at the door, and arrested both the offender' as they came Out of the shop. The evidence be ing perfectly clear against them, they wore corn milted to mil. Samuel Cooper, clerk, school teacher, dec., who hails from Warren County, was also arrested for trading in notes of the same description. He had, it appears, passed a counterfeit $3 no on Joseph Keyser, corner of Penn and Wayne, but called yesterday morning, after the arrest of Wollner and Barns, and redeemed the note. Another counter kit note of the same bank was found in his pos. session, together with three galvanized quarter dollar., the figure 2, and the word ' cents' obliter ated, so as to represent $2 gold pieces. He had also a considerable amount of good money. Cooper, it seems, hearing of the arrest of Barns and %Voltam, came to the Mayor's office to learn how matters stood with them—left the °dims, and went up to Keyser's, toredeein hi, bed note. The Mayor, suspecting hint to be an accomplice, sent an officer niter him, end had him arrested. The evidence being instoficient to Justify h a commit meat, he won discharged. It seems that there are other partners i the line, in addition to the arrested. On of t was passed on Mr. James Robb, shoe d er, ket St., on Thuraday night.
