PIT,TIII3OIIIIII BOARD OF TRADE
COMMITTEE FOR AUGUST.
lAS aulaliaLl. JO& IMITOCL. Nn7r3l"
The weather pontlnues unusually cool and
pleasant for the season, and the starlet in the
way of general sales to the trade, is Quite I veiy
for the season.
The river is gradually receding with a little lean
than four feet water in the channel, which is alto
gether sulLcient is the small, and even the middle
class steamers in our trade to rim with facility,
with fair loads of freight. The river business
however, continues very light, and we cannot
reasonably lank for any change for the better, until
theopeningof the fall trade. From this dearth in
business, and the abundance of water in the river
raw . of freight upon the river have been unusual:
ly low during the present sea on—mote so indeed
brut we have known for years. The same may
be said of the canal freights, which have been,
and me still very low.
FLOUR—We have no new feature to notice in
the flour market. The receipts yesterday were
partial, and the Inquiry seemed to be leas active if
possible, than on the preceding day. The amount
changing lianas, either from hint hands or from
store, was very limited, and quotations showed no
material change. Sales at the river in entail lots
at 4,25, and from store at 4,7a1,4:11c tir
ra grain we notice nothing new; limited sales
were regularly effected at former rates.
The Inoue may be said of the Provision mar
ket. The market to generally very steady, and
Curtner prices are well sustained. The bacon mar
ket is tolerably brink, and in general pales to the
trade, a fait amount of business is done.
No change in the grocery market. The market
is not active, but every thing mmtinues in fair de
mand at full prices.
A general quietness prevails throughout the
market.

DRY Does. Srsa—Yesterday evening whilst the
steamer St Paul was in the act of going on the
large new dock, owned by Messrs Brooks, Mee
ghan & Holliday, by tome accident it (the dock)
careened, and the tine engine and machinery used
for pumping out the water, and raising it, was sub.
merged, and the fires put out, The strength of
the current broke the chain cables with which it
had been secured, and the immense mass floated
down the stream, tearing away in its nurse the
steamer Independence, and the hull of the old
Missouri from their fastenings, and also injuring
several other boats. It continued its course until
nearly opposite the foot of Morgan street, where
it sunk in deep water. The St Paul wan fastened
to the dock and floated with it. The Independ
ence passed along the harbor, was caught and
turned in shore by one of the Ferry boats, and
made fast opposite the City Hell. The hull of the
Missouri was anchored out in the stream. We
were unable to learn whether the dock can L.
raised again easily or not—{St Loins Reveille.

days past has been very agreeable and pleasant
the outdoor !sashimi, hut the heat is Increasing,
and from present appearances it will not be long
bekire we are again to feel August in all it» sever
ity. All the upper streams are repprted
and from this to the mouth of the Offto, the nem
is receding slowly with barely sufficient water in
the channel fi,r the largest class steamers to go out
full freighted.. The increased difficulum of nevi•
gateau has Muired boam to advance the rates of
freight, which are nod fully 50 per cent higher
than they were 10 days ago. In the channel of

There is abundance of money offering at six

the street at 9r312 per cent per 600[1113, and some
a good deal dearer, but it is not first Hem The

their discounts, and old and sound customers find
little trouble in borrowing what they require.—
Still there is nothing like a superabundance, only
a moderate money market compared with a few

culation of country banks out of the street; but as
noon so the market grows easy, it readily finds its
way back. '
Spirit of the Domestic Markets.
Good and choice brands of country flour sold at
$3,5003,60, and buyers were rather scarce at these
low figure. There was no Mlasoun Wheat upon
the market, and the highest sales of prime and
choice Illinois were at 684167. Hemp sold pretty
freely Irma store at 59805100. Bacon is a shade
lower and the current rate for clear sides, in good
order, was 31031. Lead is down in consequence
of the advance in freights, and the only sale re-
ported to day was at 3.65. Raw 3vhiskey sold
slowly at 1811316tc. Oats at 24323, and corn at
3303'31, sacks included. In grocenes, nothing of
impatience wan done, and the market remains
quiet and in the same condition as last reported.—
